Violectric HPA V202 and Violectric HPA V222 – Balanced or Unbalanced

cma audio GmbH addresses music enthusiasts who place the highest value on impeccable signal processing, even with headphones, with the two new solutions of the Violectric brand, the Violectric HPA V202 and Violectric HPA V222 headphone amplifiers.

Violectric HPA V202 and Violectric HPA V222 – Lake People electronic GmbH and cma audio GmbH present two new headphone amplifiers of the Violectric brand, which can be called a pair of brothers, as their very similar product names suggest. The main difference between the two systems is that the new Violectric HPA V202 is designed for unbalanced headphones and the Violectric HPA V222 for balanced headphones. Both solutions, however, are said to be characterised by a wide range of application possibilities and a design for highest sound fidelity. cma audio GmbH therefore speaks of affordable high-end headphone amplifiers.

Violectric HPA V202 and Violectric HPA V222 – For demanding beginners

cma audio GmbH has been known for years as a specialist for fine headphone amplifiers, be it with solutions of the Lake People brand or the comparatively young Violectric brand. While the Lake People brand clearly focuses on the professional studio environment, the company wants to apply the experience gained from this and the many years of expertise in the Violectric brand solutions to the hi-fi environment as well.

In the case of the new Violectric HPA V202 and Violectric HPA V222 solutions, it is also the case that they want to specifically address beginners who are looking for an optimal solution for headphones at a comparatively low price. According to the description of the Constance-based company, it is specifically demanding beginners who are to be addressed.

Violectric HPA V202 – Optimal for Beginners

The new Violectric HPA V202 is said to be particularly optimal for beginners. It is described as the successor of the Violectric HPA V200. The manufacturer states that its circuit has been improved again compared to its predecessor and that it now has an outstanding signal-to-noise ratio of more than -100 dB with an operating voltage of 60 V, which puts it on the same level as the company’s larger models.

In addition to an unbalanced 6.3 mm stereo jack, a 4.4 mm pentaconn is available for connecting headphones, but in this case it is also only unbalanced.

Violectric HPA V222 – Headphone Amplifier with Balanced Connection Option

The Violectric HPA V222 is a balanced alternative to the solution just described, because the Violectric HPA V222 is equipped with a fully balanced output stage with four output stage circuits and can therefore drive balanced wired headphones with perfect electrical signal separation, according to the manufacturer’s promise. In addition to an unbalanced 6.3 mm stereo jack, there is a balanced 4.4 mm Pentaconn and a balanced 4-pin XLR socket.

Designed for flexibility

Both the Violectric HPA V202 and the Violectric HPA V222 are designed for maximum flexibility. For example, the manufacturer states that the input stages of both systems are symmetrically designed, which means that in addition to a pair of RCA sockets, a pair of XLR sockets is also available for source devices.

This is interesting because both systems can also be used as preamplifiers, whereby the high signal quality is emphasised, which is achieved, for example, through the volume control by means of a high-quality RK27 potentiometer.

Another important feature of both solutions is the so-called pre-gain circuit, which guarantees an exact adjustment of the amplifier stages to the headphone model with gain steps between -18 dB and +18 dB. This ensures an optimal working range of the volume control and the amplifier stages even for headphones with particularly high or particularly low efficiency.

With high output voltage, extremely low noise and high damping factor, the output stages guarantee optimal matching even with exotic parameters of the connected headphones, says cma audio GmbH about the two systems Violectric HPA V202 and Violectric HPA V222.

Manufactured in Germany

In our opinion, it is particularly important that cma audio GmbH has decided to manufacture even the entry-level solutions of the Violectric brand completely in Germany, specifically in the manufacturing plant in Constance. This is the only way to achieve the high quality standards without compromises, and all components have to undergo intensive testing procedures. The best components and precise workmanship guarantee not only the promised high sound quality, but also a long service life and an outstanding feel, i.e. a feel that conveys the feeling of high-end hi-fi.

Prices and availability

The new Violectric HPA V202 and Violectric HPA V222 solutions should be available from specialist dealers immediately. The recommended retail price is listed at € 899,- for the Violectric HPA V202 and € 1.199,- for the Violectric HPA V222.

Getting to the point

The two new headphone amplifiers Violectric HPA V202 and Violectric HPA V222 were designed by Lake People electronic GmbH as solutions aimed at demanding beginners.
