Violectric Chronos – Mobile DAC including headphone amplifier

It is a combination that can already be described as classic in the field of personal audio devices, namely a D/A converter plus headphone amplifier. Lake People electronic GmbH now offers exactly such a solution with the new Violectric Chronos.

High-end sound on the road is the task for which the new Violectric Chronos is designed, a particularly compact solution for mobile use, which Lake People electronic GmbH now presents as the latest product of the Violectric brand.

Once again, the company is relying on a classic combination that has become a standard in the field of personal audio devices: a D/A converter and headphone amplifier.

Violectric Chronos – For the best music enjoyment on the road

Compact, elegant in appearance, yet powerful in sound – this is how Lake People electronic GmbH describes the new Violectric Chronos, which is said to incorporate all the expertise acquired over many years at Lake Constance as a provider of professional studio solutions, but also increasingly in the field of solutions in the high-end hi-fi segment.

The new Violectric Chronos, for example, promises to make the incorruptible sound available on the move, which has been the hallmark of Lake People electronic GmbH products for years.

As a replacement for weak integrated converters and amplifiers

The primary task of the Violectric Chronos is to act as an alternative to the often very mediocre converters and weak amplifiers in mobile devices of all kinds, thus raising the quality of the performance to a completely new level of quality even when on the move.

Compact and elegant

The first thing you notice about the new Violectric Chronos is that it is a very compact solution, with the 44.5 x 24 x 10 mm housing made of aluminium. It was even milled from a solid block, as the manufacturer states. A glass plate is found at the top and bottom, so that a very elegant look is supposed to result. A display is also available here, which shines green for linear PCM signals and blue for DSD.

By the way, the operation is done by buttons on the side of the unit, this should be mentioned here for the sake of completeness.

32 Bit and 384 kHz as well as DSD256

The D/A converter used here is supposed to be able to process signals with up to 32 bits and 384 kHz in Linear PCM, as well as DSD up to DSD256. These are impressive figures, as is the dynamic range, which the manufacturer claims to be 130 dB for the Violectric Chronos. Lowest distortions are guaranteed, as well as a detailed reproduction that can satisfy even audiophile demands.

The output power is 30 mW twice in conjunction with headphones with an impedance of 32 ohms or 5 mW twice with particularly demanding headphones with an impedance of 600 ohms.

USB-C, Micro USB or Apple Lightning

The new Violectric Chronos is said to be particularly flexible when it comes to connection; it comes with three adapter cables that allow connection to USB-C, Micro USB as well as Apple Lightning. This means that the Violectric Chronos is available for smartphones with Google Android and Apple iOS, as well as notebooks with Microsoft Windows and Apple macOS as operating systems. In no case is a separate installation of drivers necessary.

Power is supplied directly via the source device, whereby the manufacturer states that the Violectric Chronos, with a maximum power consumption of 200 mA, hardly burdens the battery of the source device and thus guarantees the longest possible playing time.

The new Violectric Chronos will be available in specialist shops from the end of July 2021. The manufacturer states a recommended retail price of € 199.

Getting to the point

The new Violectric Chronos is the first mobile D/A converter and headphone amplifier from Violectric. The company Lake People electronic GmbH has nevertheless used its concentrated expertise to guarantee high-end hi-fi on the move. In view of this, the price of the new Violectric Chronos seems surprisingly reasonable.
