T+A 200 Series – New high-end team players

The new T+A 200 series offers a wide range of solutions, namely the T+A MP 200 multi-source player, T+A DAC 200 D/A converter preamplifier and the T+A A 200 power amplifier. The series takes up the design of the T+A HA 200 Reference Headphone Amplifier.

The new T+A Series 200 is the modern interpretation of legendary midi hi-fi systems from T+A elektroakustik GmbH, according to the German high-end hi-fi manufacturer from Herford. It follows on from solutions such as the iconic T+A M system from the 1990s and most recently the T+A Series 8, the company says, once again combining audiophile excellence with a timelessly elegant, but above all compact design.

Right from the start, the new T+A Series 200 includes a wide range of products, starting with the T+A MP 200 Multi Source Player, followed by the T+A DAC 200 D/A converter preamplifier and the T+A A 200 power amplifier. Then, of course, there is the already available T+A HA 200 headphone amplifier.

T+A Series – Specialized Team Players

The concept of the new T+A 200 Series is based on the fact that a number of specialists are presented here, which in sum should result in a fine HiFi chain at the high-end level. At the same time, the user still has a great deal of flexibility in deciding how to set up this chain.

T+A elektroakustik GmbH wants to close a supposed dichotomy between highly specialized individual devices and a playful series, as the company itself states.

Timeless reduction

The design of the complete series is naturally based on the philosophy of timeless reduction that T+A elektroakustik GmbH has been pursuing for years, as the company itself describes its design language.

For more than 20 years, this philosophy has been the starting point for all products, giving them a common visual DNA, according to the company.

As already mentioned, however, the new T+A 200 Series is also characterized by the fact that a connection is being made here to solutions of years long past, thus a link between history and modernity.

In fact, the new T+A Series 200 reaches far into the past and takes its cue from the design language of the legendary T+A M system from 1993, with the Herford designers replacing the defining chrome of the 1990s with timeless matte aluminum in black or silver.

T+A HA 200 headphone amplifier as the basis for the series

T+A elektroakustik GmbH followed a thoroughly exciting path in developing the new T+A series. The T+A HA 200 headphone amplifier actually represents the starting point of this product line, which is quite unusual. Normally, after all, one would assume that one would first present an amplifier or source device, and then subsequently expand this to include, say, a solution such as a headphone amplifier.

“Our first headphone amplifier HA 200 is an uncompromising top-of-the-line device whose D/A converter has inherited the genes of our reference DAC T+A SDV 3100 HV, and its market success is accordingly great. This has encouraged us to develop our own series of highly specialized devices on this basis.”

The fact that the headphone amplifier in question is used as the basis for the new product line applies not only from a technical point of view, but also in terms of design. The front of the new T+A DAC 200, for example, reflects concise details of the T+A HA 200, thus integrating it into the series. For development manager Lothar Wiemann, it was a logical step to build a range around the T+A HA 200:

“From the very beginning, the 200 Series devices were intended as specialist products, creating a mix and match ecosystem.”

Perfect interaction

The new T+A MP 200 takes on the role of the classic multi-source player, while the T+A DAC 200 has been designed as a dedicated digital/analog converter and preamplifier. The T+A A 200 power amplifier completes the system.

According to T+A elektroakustik GmbH, the advantage of the combination lies in its strength as individual high-end reference devices and in its sum as a team.

“We’ve designed each unit to do its job superbly as an individual unit, yet do it even better as a series.”

Therefore, it is expressly stated that the devices of the T+A Series 200 work perfectly both in a system network and as an individual addition to existing systems.

Technically the Herforder High-end HiFi smithy from the internal Modular High End architecture, briefly as MHA designated, which permits for the T+A DAC 200 the ability for the conversion of Linear PCM with up to 32 bits and 768 kHz likewise like DSD up to DSD1024, and an amplifier sections in Class A and/or. HV technology, which makes the T+A DAC 200 particularly suitable for users of acoustic loudspeaker systems, but also predestines it as a pure audiophile converter.

Access to all services such as TIDAL, Deezer, Qobuz and Roon – this is for the time being still in the certification process – is just as convenient control via T+A MusicNavigator App via the T+A AMP 200, the company says.

For flexible control of a wide variety of loudspeaker systems, the T+A A 200 power amplifier with its 250 watts of power per channel represents the end of the chain, while headphone users can either connect the T+A HA 200 or use the 4.4 mm Pentaconn output of the T+A DAC 200.

The T+A Series 200 solutions are available for pre-order now, with delivery beginning in October 2021, T+A elektroakustik GmbH said. The T+A HA 200 is already available, after all, so this is mentioned for the sake of completeness.

As a non-binding recommended retail price, T+A elektroakustik GmbH states € 4,390 for the new T+A MP 200 multi-source player, the T+A DAC 200 D/A converter preamplifier is to cost € 5,490. The power amplifier of the new T+A Series 200, the T+A A 200 power amplifier is listed at € 3,790. The T+A HA 200 headphone amplifier is priced at € 6,600.

Getting to the point

With the slogan “Do not underestimate the small ones” T+A elektroakustik GmbH had already advertised the T+A M system in the 1990s, and this principle still applies to the T+A 200 Series now presented. This new product line consists of the T+A MP 200, T+A DAC 200, T+A HA 200 and T+A A 200 systems, whereby these solutions are designed both as individual specialists, but in total they make up a high-end hi-fi chain that can easily compete with much larger systems.
