With the new SPL Performer s1200 Stereo Power Amplifier, the German specialist SPL electronics GmbH expands the SPL Professional Fidelity Series with an extremely exciting solution, namely a stereo amplifier that once again relies on the SPL VOLTAiR Technology and that comes up with considerable power reserves.

It is obvious that the experience of an already existing product in the range is used. The new SPL Performer s1200 Stereo Power Amplifier is not only visually but also technically closely related to the SPL Performer m1000 Mono Power Amplifier.

SPL Performer s1200 Stereo Power Amplifier – In a Class of its Own

The German company explains that the SPL Performer s1200 Stereo Power Amplifier is not just another stereo amplifier, but a solution in a class of its own.

The new SPL Performer s1200 Stereo Power Amplifier is designed in such a way that it can control almost any loudspeaker system as a purely analogue solution, thus entering completely new worlds of sound.

SPL VOLTAiR Technology

The basis for this is the so-called SPL VOLTAiR Technology, which allows a detailed, lively and honest reproduction.

SPL electronics GmbH explains that conventional solid-state amplifiers quickly reach the limits of the components used, which leads to distortion. Power amplifiers based on tubes also produce distortions, even if the sound is perceived as soft. SPL VOLTAiR Technology allows much higher levels than solid-state or tube power amplifiers, and always without distortion, because all components remain continuously in the optimal operating range.

In practical terms, this means that the new stereo amplifier can deliver 520 watts into 4 ohms twice, 300 watts into 8 ohms twice, and if the loudspeaker systems had an impedance of only 2 ohms, 550 watts would be available twice.

This is also due to the fact that in the new SPL Performer s1200 Stereo Power Amplifier, separate voltage and power amplifier stages ensure a stable operating point for the amplifier circuit, which operates in Class AB. The SPL VOLTAiR Technology is designed to provide full performance by eliminating feedback from the loudspeaker system to the input stage via separate negative feedback paths.

The power reserves are provided by a 1,440 VA toroidal core transformer and for sufficient cooling, massive cooling elements are used on the one hand, but also six fans if necessary. According to the manufacturer, however, these are hardly ever used, as 90 per cent of the waste heat can already be dissipated via the aforementioned heat sinks.

Solid connection

The SPL Performer s1200 Stereo Power Amplifier has unbalanced Cinch as well as balanced XLR inputs, and as a special feature it has a so-called Trim control. This allows the input sensitivity to be adjusted in 0.5 dB steps from 0 dB to -5.5 dB.

For connecting the loudspeaker systems, robust binding posts are available that accept both banana plugs and stranded wire with a diameter of up to 4 mm and guarantee a secure connection.

Central control can be realised via trigger connections, which should also be mentioned at this point.

Individually designed housing

It is interesting to note that the user of the new SPL Performer s1200 Stereo Power Amplifier has the possibility to customise it to a large extent, at least when it comes to design.

The SPL Performer s1200 Stereo Power Amplifier has an extremely robust aluminium housing in the typical design of the manufacturer and is available in the basic colours black, red or silver. As if that were not enough, the front panel of the power amplifier can also be selected in the colours black, silver and red.

With dimensions of 278 x 205 x 375 mm, the new SPL Performer s1200 Stereo Power Amplifier weighs 25.1 kg.
