Panasonic RZ-S500W und Panasonic RZ-S300W – True wireless In-ear headphones…

Headphones that deliver nothing less than the finest sound on the go are to be guaranteed with the two new inear headphones Panasonic RZ-S500W and Panasonic RZ-S300W, which also offer wireless freedom. In order to ensure excellent sound even in noisy environments, the Panasonic RZ-S500W also features unique noise cancelling technologies.

It has long been possible to do without a cable completely, even with in-ear headphones, if desired, and thus rely solely on Bluetooth for connection to the source device. This allows absolute freedom and is no longer accompanied by rough restrictions in terms of playing time, as the so-called True wireless In-ear headphones at least offer practical battery performance. And you don’t have to do without particularly sophisticated technical features, as the latest solutions from Panasonic prove, for example, the Panasonic RZ-S500W and Panasonic RZ-S300W models.

When developing the two new True wireless In-ear headphones Panasonic RZ-S500W and Panasonic RZ-S300W, the company has dedicated itself to outstanding sound and wireless freedom, as well as a very stable Bluetooth connection to guarantee smooth operation at all times. The Panasonic RZ-S500W is also equipped with active noise cancelling, which is considered to be the industry’s leading and unique noise cancelling technology.

If an 8 mm driver is used in the new Panasonic RZ-S500W, the new Panasonic RZ-S300W also has a driver with a 6 mm diameter. In both cases it is the signal transmission via Bluetooth that limits the frequency response to 20 Hz to 20 kHz. The sound signature is designed for a neutral tuning.

So that you can always enjoy music undisturbed even in a noisy environment, the Panasonic RZ-S500W model is, as already mentioned, equipped with an active noise suppression, which is a special highlight from the manufacturer’s point of view. It is said to be no less than the industry-leading noise cancelling technology used in this model.

The active noise reduction is based on a combination of feed forward and feedback noise cancelling, as well as digital and analogue signal processing. First, feedforward noise cancelling analyses the noise outside the headphones to effectively cancel it out. The feedback system detects and counteracts noise generated inside the pinna, using analogue signal processing with the lowest possible latency. All in all, this Dual Hybrid Noise Cancelling technology results in absolutely clear, clean reproduction, free of ambient noise.

A further essential feature of the noise cancelling function is that it can be individually adjusted in over 100 steps. This is done with the so-called Panasonic Audio Connect App, which is available for Apple iOS and Google Android, and which we will discuss in more detail below.

It should also be pointed out that the noise cancelling function of the new Panasonic RZ-S500W can be deactivated by simply touching the sensor field on the outside of the headphones, in order to be able to have conversations and follow announcements in the so-called interaction mode. Pressing the sensor for two seconds switches the Ambient Noise and Noise Cancelling modes on and off permanently.

For both models, the manufacturer states that it guarantees a particularly stable Bluetooth connection, so that there are no interruptions whatsoever, even in crowded places with many sources of interference. To achieve this, the signals of the left and right channels are transmitted separately and a particularly innovative arrangement of the antennas around the operating sensor is used.

Moreover, the highest value was placed on an optimal voice quality when using the models Panasonic RZ-S500W and Panasonic RZ-S300W as a hands-free set. Here, high-performance MEMS microphones are used and the company relies on special positioning of these microphones so that wind noise is suppressed. The Panasonic RZ-S500W also uses beam forming technology to effectively block out ambient noise.

Of course, both models are compatible with the usual speech recognition systems, be it Apple Siri, Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa.

We’ve already mentioned it, of course one app is not to be missed, namely the Panasonic Audio Connect app. This app is primarily used for easy pairing of the headphones with the source device, and also allows you to call up different sound modes, locate the Orhe inserts if you have misplaced them, and of course activate or adjust the noise cancelling function on the Panasonic RZ-S500W. As already mentioned, this app is offered for Apple iOS and Google Android.

Why the Panasonic RZ-S500W and Panasonic RZ-S300W rely on Bluetooth 5.0 and support the profiles A2DP, AVRCP, HSP and HFP, but only the codecs SBC and AAC and not aptX or even aptX HD… What a pity!

Both headphone models are said to be characterized by a compact, ergonomic design and a very low weight of only 7 g, thus guaranteeing highest wearing comfort even during longer use. Of course, various earpieces are included in the scope of delivery, namely five in the Panasonic RZ-S500W, and four in the Panasonic RZ-S300W.

The integrated battery of the headphones should offer a playing time of approximately 6.5 hours in the Panasonic RZ-S500W, and that with the activated noise cancelling function. Without this, it’s up to 7.5 hours, as in the Panasonic RZ-S300W. Of course, a compact charging box is included, which also serves as a transport case. Thus, the Panasonic RZ-S500W with Noise Cancelling has a total playing time of 19.5 hours, the Panasonic RZ-S300W up to 26 hours. Charging should take about two hours at the power outlet and about four hours in the box. For charging, a USB interface is available on the transport case, whereby a suitable cable of 0.5 m length is part of the scope of delivery.

By the way, this is not unimportant, both models are IPX4 compliant, which means they are resistant to splash water and sweat, so that you can use them outdoors in the rain and for sports without any problems.

The Panasonic RZ-S500W is available in Deep Black and Dusty White, while the Panasonic RZ-S300W comes in Deep Black, Dusty White and Mint Green. The new models should be available in specialist shops from July 2020. The recommended retail price is € 179.99 for the Panasonic RZ-S500W and € 119.99 for the Panasonic RZ-S300W.
