Musical Fidelity M6x ViNYL – The new generation …

The Musical Fidelity M6 ViNYL was already considered a flexible phono pre-stage, which presented itself with impeccable equipment, now the second generation is presented in the form of the new Musical Fidelity M6x ViNYL. This comes up with a number of exciting innovations, above all with a completely discreet hardware design.

Phono preamplifiers have always been of great importance to Musical Fidelity, whether as solutions integrated into preamplifiers or integrated amplifiers, or as stand-alone products. Actually, there is no product series at Musical Fidelity that does not have a phono preamplifier in some form or other, so vinyl lovers are always provided with the finest solutions.

The Musical Fidelity M6 ViNYL, a phono preamplifier which is characterised by its flexibility, was available in the Musical Fidelity M6 Series. Now the new Fidelity M6x ViNYL is the second generation of this solution, introducing a number of exciting new features.

What is exciting is that Musical Fidelity describes the new Musical Fidelity M6x ViNYL first and foremost as a solution that does its job as discreetly as possible, and is therefore a product that makes you forget that it is even there. The new musical Fidelity M6x ViNYL is promised to have practically no audible noise or distortion, so that it will only serve to deliver music in its purest form. And this is true regardless of which pickups are used.

This solution is called a very powerful, high-precision phono preamplifier, which, how could it be otherwise, is designed for both MM and MC cartridges. The particularly exciting thing about this is that the Fidelity M6x ViNYL musical has three inputs at the same time, so you can actually connect three drives at the same time. Each input can be configured individually, so that the promised flexibility is guaranteed even for the most demanding vinyl lovers.

The aim is to create a phono preamplifier that knows virtually no limits, starting with the possibility of connecting three drives at the same time, to the design of the circuitry to avoid overloading the input stage or encountering practical limitations in output capacity during normal operation.

Another very important point is that the development of the new musical Fidelity M6x ViNYL is based on a completely discrete circuit. According to the manufacturer, this design philosophy has immense sonic advantages over integrated circuits, even though the effort required to use individual resistors, capacitors and transistors instead of operational amplifiers is far greater.

Countless hours of listening tests have shown that even the best operational amplifiers do not sound as neutral, natural, dynamic and therefore ultimately “alive” as a discretely constructed circuit is able to do. This is why the decision was made to implement a solution for the new musical Fidelity M6x ViNYL that does not make do with a “handful” of components around operational amplifiers, but requires several hundred in discrete design. This is all the more remarkable as the Musical Fidelity M6x ViNYL, as described, ultimately combines three independent phono preamplifiers.

All relevant parameters – MM or MC, capacitance, resistance, gain – can be set separately for each of the three inputs. For this purpose, a series of buttons with corresponding status LEDs are available directly on the front of the Musical Fidelity M6x ViNYL. The settings made for each input are of course stored.

Two unbalanced as well as one balanced input are available at the connections, so that one is also very flexible when setting up the HiFi chain. Of course, there is also an unbalanced as well as a balanced connection available on the output side.

For MM pickup systems the input resistance is 47 kOhm, the input capacitance can be selected between 50 and 400 pF. For MC pick-up systems the input resistance can be selected between 25 Ohm and 1.2 kOhm, the input capacitance is fixed at 470 pF.

The design of the new Musical Fidelity M6x ViNYL is of course completely identical to the design line of the Musical Fidelity M6 Series, so it can also be used with the solutions of other series without any problems, as they are, with the exception of the Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista Series, at least to a large extent similar to the M8 Series, M5 Series, M3 Series and M2 Series.

With dimensions of 440 x 100 x 385 mm the new musical Fidelity M6x ViNYL weighs a whopping 5.5 kg. A black or silver version is available.

The recommended retail price for the new musical Fidelity M6x ViNYL is € 1.799,-. The new phono preamplifier of the musical Fidelity M6 Series should be available in specialist shops from now on.
