Mission LX CONNECT Wireless Speaker System – wireless, compact and great sounding

It is the first True Wireless Active Loudspeaker System from the traditional British brand Mission, which is now being introduced with the new Mission LX CONNECT Wireless Speaker System. This is intended to achieve a new level of comfort and performance, according to the manufacturer’s promise.

With the new Mission LX CONNECT Wireless Speaker System, the English specialist Mission breaks new ground. For the first time, a True Wireless Active Loudspeaker System is presented, according to the manufacturer, who talks about combining innovative wireless transmission with the performance of the speaker systems of the Mission LX MKII Series.

It is also interesting that the company relies on the combination of actual active loudspeaker systems with a central hub, the Mission LX CONNECT Hub, as the central interface.

Mission LX CONNECT Wireless Speaker System – Based on the Mission LX MKII Series

The focus here is, of course, on the actual speaker system, which, as already mentioned, is based on the Mission LX MKII Series. The Mission LX CONNECT Wireless Speaker System is a compact two-way bass reflex system that measures no more than 305 mm in height, 200 mm in width and 250 mm in depth. With the latter specification, however, you have to add a good 15 mm for the connection panel. However, the speakers should not be placed directly on the wall anyway, as the bass reflex system is led out to the rear by means of two bass reflex tubes.

Inverted Driver Geometry

It is striking that the bass driver is on top and the tweeter below, a quite unusual driver arrangement on the baffle. The manufacturer calls this Inverted Driver Geometry and uses a combination of 130 mm composite fibre cone for the bass unit and a 25 mm microfibre dome for the tweeter.

This allows a frequency range between 58 Hz and 20 kHz, with the crossover intervening at 3.2 kHz.

Class D power amplifiers

The active loudspeaker systems are driven by amplifier modules in Class D, whereby the manufacturer states that it relies on specially developed solutions that drive each chassis with 50 watts each.

Mission speaks of deep, dry basses, clear trebles and fascinating dynamics in the new Mission LX CONNECT Wireless Speaker System and promises nothing less than an incorruptible performance.

Mission LX CONNECT Hub at the centre

As already mentioned, a so-called hub plays a decisive role in the new Mission LX CONNECT Wireless Speaker System, the Mission LX CONNECT Hub. Its main purpose is to ensure that all connections are not distributed between the two speakers, but are centrally accessible via a compact component. Due to its very small dimensions of only 225 x 231 x 55 mm, it can easily be placed around a TV set, for example, and is hardly noticeable here with its discreet design in matt black.

First of all, there is an analogue input in the form of a pair of cinch sockets, digital signals can be used via an optical and coaxial S/PDIF interface. In addition, and this is very important, there is an HDMI port, so that, as already mentioned, a TV can be connected directly as a source. It goes without saying that audio signals are transmitted via ARC, as well as HDMI CEC for central control with the TV’s remote control alone.

A PC or Mac can be used directly as a source via USB, which also offers the full quality that the DAC used is capable of.

The developers of the new Mission LX CONNECT Wireless Speaker System rely on an ESS Sabre32 ES9018K2M reference DAC, which processes signals in Linear PCM with up to 32 bits and 384 kHz, as well as DSD up to DSD256.

However, this only applies to USB; audio data in Linear PCM with up to 24 bits and 192 kHz are supported via the other digital interfaces.

It should be expressly noted that the D/A converter of the new Mission LX CONNECT Wireless Speaker System is Roon-tested, which means that the Roon software from Roon Labs LLC. can be used directly with this active speaker system via a PC or Mac.

If you want to use a smartphone or tablet as a source, you can do so via an integrated Bluetooth module, which also supports aptX for signal transmission in “CD quality”.

A headphone connection directly on the front of the hub and an analogue pre-out on the back round off the features.

Signal transmission via radio

The signal transmission from the hub to the speakers is solely via radio, using 5.8 GHz Wireless Uncompressed Technology.

Simple control

The new Mission LX CONNECT Wireless Speaker System is said to be particularly easy to control, with a suitable infrared remote control included in the scope of delivery.

But control can also be taken over directly at the central hub, via a large button on the front. An easy-to-read display is also available here.

The new Mission LX CONNECT Wireless Speaker System is offered in the three finishes Walnut Pearl, Lux White and Lux Black, which, according to the manufacturer, are supposed to convey the same discreet noblesse as their sisters of the Mission LX series, but without any annoying cable tangle.

The new Mission LX CONNECT Wireless Speaker System is expected to hit the shelves these days, with a suggested retail price of € 1.298,-.

Getting to the point

The new Mission LX CONNECT Wireless Speaker System is supposed to be a particularly flexible active speaker system of compact design that does not need any cables. Fortunately, the English specialist Mission relies on a central hub with numerous interfaces for this wireless speaker system, which allows for integration into a wide variety of configurations and thus actually makes this solution one that is in no way inferior to a conventional hi-fi system.
