McIntosh MHT300 Home Theatre Receiver as a powerful 7.2-channel AV receiver

The equipment leaves nothing to be desired, even home cinema enthusiasts will find the right solution here, McIntosh Laboratory Inc. is convinced of this at the presentation of the new AV receiver McIntosh MHT300 Home Theatre Receiver.

Story Highlights
  • The new McIntosh MHT300 Home Theatre Receiver is said to be a real heavyweight, designed as a 7.2-channel AV receiver.

McIntosh Laboratory Inc. speaks of blockbuster power when presenting the new McIntosh MHT300 home theatre receiver, which is a particularly powerful 7.2-channel AV receiver with the most modern features and is suitable even for demanding home cinema enthusiasts. This solution delivers 150 watts per channel, uses surround processing up to Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, is equipped for signal processing up to 8K Ultra HD and Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG, and has DIRAC Live Room Correction.

McIntosh MHT300 Home Theatre Receiver – Up to 150 watts per channel

It is above all the performance of the McIntosh MHT300 Home Theatre Receiver that the manufacturer emphasises, and rightly so. In this context, it should be mentioned that many manufacturers in the consumer segment pursue creative approaches to present the performance of their systems in a particularly good light.

This is exactly what Mcintosh Laboratory Inc. points out and promises that each of the seven amplifier channels of the new McIntosh MHT300 Home Theatre Receiver actually delivers 120 watts to speaker systems with 8 ohms impedance or 150 watts to speakers with 4 ohms.

The basis for this is to be provided by amplifier modules, which of course can refer to all the advantages that have been used by McIntosh Laboratory Inc. for years, up to protective measures such as McIntosh Power Guard Signal Overload Technology or McIntosh Sentry Monitor Short-circuit Protection Circuit.

Well-equipped connection panel

A look at the back of the new McIntosh MHT300 Home Theatre Receiver shows four HDMI inputs and one HDMI output, which of course comply with HDCP 2.2 and are equipped for signals in 4K/ 120 Hz and 8K/ 60Hz, as well as for HDR, HDR10, HLG, 4:4:4 Colour, BT.2020 and Dolby Vision. The HDMI output features an eARC (enhanced Audio Return Channel).

Four inputs should actually be enough these days, some people might be critical of the fact that only one output is available here, this should be mentioned at this point.

Two optical and two coaxial S/PDIF interfaces are available for additional source devices, and for each channel there is also a pair of RCA sockets as in and out, which are normally permanently bridged, but can also be separated. In addition, there are cinch connections for two subwoofers and four further cinch sockets for the expansion of optional treble channels, whereby an additional amplifier must be brought into play for this. Trigger inputs and outputs, an RS232 interface and a connection for a measuring microphone are also available here, as well as an RJ45 Ethernet interface and an antenna connection for the integrated FM tuner.

Optimal adjustment with DIRAC Live Room Correction

McIntosh Laboratory Inc. describes the solution used here, namely DIRAC Live Room Correction, as state-of-the-art room correction and also promises a particularly simple and quick setup for the McIntosh MHT300 Home Theatre Receiver. This can be done via the aforementioned network interface and thus a web browser.

Of course, the new McIntosh MHT300 Home Theater Receiver is ideally equipped to be integrated into various installation solutions, and it comes with a suitable remote control for everyday operation. However, a special app for smartphones and tablets is not available here.

Up to Dolby Atmos and DTS:X

The signal processing of the new McIntosh MHT300 Home Theatre Receiver allows content up to Dolby Atmos and DTS:X and thus immersive 3D surround sound, whereby up to 11.2 channels are possible. Last but not least, the use of particularly high-quality converters is supposed to ensure optimal results, whereby the manufacturer speaks in this context of seven premium 32-bit digital-to-analogue converters with audiophile-grade processing, without, however, giving further details.

Prices and Availability

The new McIntosh MHT300 Home Theatre Receiver was presented for the first time at ISE 2023 in Barcelona, and will be available in March 2023, according to the manufacturer. The price tag is € 11.700,- which is worth mentioning here.

Getting to the point

No frills that have nothing to do with home cinema, such as streaming, but rather the concentration on the essentials and thus only a solid AV receiver with adequate performance on all channels, this is how one could describe the new McIntosh MHT300 Home Theatre Receiver, which McIntosh Laboratory Inc. presented for the first time at the ISE 2023 in Barcelona.
