Magnat Audio-Produkte GmbH describes the Magnat Omega CS 12 subwoofer, which is now available, as the perfect complement for hi-fi and home cinema systems in the lowest frequency range. According to the manufacturer, it offers deep bass and performance in perfection.
Subwoofers are an indispensable piece of equipment for home cinema applications. Their task is to provide the necessary emphasis in the low bass range and to set the scene for the sound of a film with the necessary power. But subwoofers can also do a good job in the classic stereo range, especially if you opt for more compact speaker systems that appreciate a little support in the lowest frequency range.
In both cases, the latest subwoofer from Magnat Audio-Produkte GmbH should prove its worth. The German manufacturer even calls the Magnat Omega CS 12 a perfect addition to hi-fi and home cinema systems, a subwoofer that offers deep bass and performance in perfection. A high-performance driver in combination with a powerful Class D power amplifier is supposed to provide the corresponding performance, while a comparatively compact and, according to the manufacturer, timelessly elegant cabinet ensures that the Magnat Omega CS 12 can be easily integrated into any room.
Especially the latter point is important for many users, after all, a subwoofer should be as discreet as possible in its appearance. The manufacturer advertises that it could hardly be more compact, at least not in this performance class. The Magnat Omega CS 12 measures 385 x 400 x 450 mm and weighs in at 24 kg. A very stable, low-resonance cabinet made of MDF was used, which has a noble high-gloss finish and is kept in black. A closed construction should allow a particularly precise reproduction, whereby the Magnat Omega CS 12 is designed as a so-called front-fire subwoofer. The cabinet rests on large extended surface dampers, also known as ESD, to ensure a secure stand and optimal decoupling from the ground.
The Magnat Omega CS 12 uses a 12 driver with a double diaphragm that is specially hardened and coated to guarantee precise reproduction. First and foremost, the drive consists of a ventilated 70 mm high-performance voice coil and a 170 mm ferrite magnet. Together with the glued and additionally sewn long excursion surround, an extremely stable loudspeaker basket made of die-cast aluminium as well as the already mentioned special treatment of the 300 mm diaphragm, a construction optimised by means of Klippel laser technology is supposed to result that optimally reproduces a frequency between 18 and 200 Hz.
The woofer is driven by a Class D amplifier that delivers an impressive 525 watts of continuous power and up to 1,100 watts of peak power. Of course, the developers of the new Magnat Omega CS 12 rely on DSP-based signal processing, which linearises the frequency response and allows the stepless adjustment of the crossover frequency, the phase as well as the adjustable bass extension at 35 Hz (0 dB or +6dB) and also has a limiter.
As far as connections are concerned, the new Magnat Omega CS 12 has only one pair of cinch sockets as a low level input.
Of course, the Magnat Omega CS 12 offers all control possibilities to adjust the already mentioned important parameters for an optimal connection to the respective loudspeaker system and its position in the room. The corresponding controls for level, crossover frequency, phase and the adjustable bass extension can all be found on the rear panel, while a two-stage display on the front at least shows the current volume. The scope of delivery also includes a suitable infrared remote control.
It goes without saying that the new Magnat Omega CS 12 has an automatic standby circuit with low power consumption, which can be deactivated if desired.
The new Magnat Omega CS 12 should be available from specialist dealers as early as these days. As already mentioned, it is available in piano lacquer black alone. The recommended retail price is stated at € 999.
