Magnat MMS 730 Internet/ DAB/ FM Streamer – Network, Bluetooth and Radio

Music from your own network, via the Spotify streaming service, Internet radio, radio via FM and DAB tuner, direct connection of USB storage media and Bluetooth for mobile devices – the new Magnat MMS 730 Internet/DAB/FM Streamer is designed to combine all of these features.

The German company Magnat Audio Produkte GmbH has been offering a very exciting line of hi-fi electronics for quite some time now, with a clear focus on traditional values. The company’s stereo integrated amplifiers focus on tubes, but combined with modern features such as integrated D/A converters and even the connection to mobile devices is supported via Bluetooth. The solutions thus take up a certain retro touch, but combine this with all the possibilities that today’s hi-fi solutions should offer. It is interesting to note that these amplifier systems have so far been based solely on CD players, so the topic of streaming in general has not really been taken up yet. This is now set to change, with a solution that the manufacturer describes as particularly flexible of its kind, even as a high-end streamer.

With the new Magnat MMS 730 Internet/ DAB/ FM Streamer, Magnat Audio Produkte GmbH combines the complete media variety that is desired today, according to the manufacturer’s description. This solution should allow access to content in your own network as well as to online content. Once again, the company is also “classic” and relies on tried and tested radio, but in the entire range from FM to DAB to Internet radio.

The new Magnat MMS 730 Internet/ DAB/ FM Streamer presents itself completely in the style of previous hi-fi solutions from Magnat Audio Produkte GmbH, thus relying on a solid metal housing in discreet black with a front made of brushed aluminium. The system is kept quite slim, after all, it relies solely on a few essential control elements and a comparatively discreet display, which, however, shows the essential information about the operating status of the device or the active source.

Of course, the first priority is to integrate the Magnat MMS 730 Internet/ DAB/ FM Streamer into the network, whereby this can be done via WiFi or via an RJ45 Ethernet interface. Further connections are digital inputs on the rear panel, with both an optical and coaxial S/PDIF interface available. For the outputs one relies solely on anlog, but provides a classic pair of RCA jacks. There is also a USB port directly on the front.

First and foremost, the new Magnat MMS 730 Internet/DAB/FM Streamer functions as a dlna-certified UPnP streaming client, so that you can basically use any app for control, but the manufacturer also offers its own app, the Magnat Streaming App, which can be downloaded for Apple iOS and Google Android.

This app is not only for playing your own content, it also allows access to thousands of internet radio stations. Unfortunately, Spotify is the only service available here.

If you prefer classic radio, you can of course save your favorite FM and DAB+ stations as presets. There are 40 presets available for each. RDS Radiotext is just as natural as a station search and automatic station tuning.

As already mentioned, mobile devices can be integrated via Bluetooth, whereby the developers of the new Magnat MMS 730 Internet/DAB/FM Streamer rely on a module from Qualcomm with Bluetooth 5.0 and thus the support of aptX and aptX HD.

The signal transmission is thus not only possible in “CD quality”, but even with up to 24 bits and 48 kHz.

Via the USB port on the front panel, corresponding storage media can be integrated, although only media with up to 8 GByte memory are supported, which is just as outdated as the restriction to MP3 and WMA files. But at least this USB port can be used to charge mobile devices, for example when the smartphone is used as a source via Bluetooth.

The new Magnat MMS 730 Internet/ DAB/ FM Streamer is able to process content with up to 24 bits and 192 kHz, using Wolfson WM 8740 converters.

The new Magnat MMS 730 Internet/ DAB/ FM Streamer comes with a matching infrared remote control, so you don’t always have to rely on the Magnat Streaming App for Apple iOS and Google Android for simple operations. The new Magnat MMS 730 Internet/ DAB/ FM Streamer is now available at a recommended retail price of € 599,-.
