Streaming, audio CD, phono preamplifier, DAC, radio via FM and DAD plus amplifier - all this is included in the new Magnat MC 400, which Magnat Audio-Produkte GmbH calls a high-end stereo network receiver and thus a control centre for a compact hi-fi chain.

Magnat MC 400, this solution offers everything that a hi-fi lover ultimately desires, the company Magnat Audio-Produkte GmbH is convinced, because it is a solution that combines all the tasks of a modern hi-fi chain in a compact, elegant form. And in the best quality. This is why the company refers to it as a high-end stereo network receiver, whereby it decided to use a solution in the classic component format.

Magnat MC 400 – The Ideal Control Centre

The new Magnat MC 400 could also be described as a control centre or elegant interpretation of a complete audio system that is ideally equipped for a wide range of tasks.

In fact, the new Magnat MC 400 combines streaming functionality, the possibility to play audio CDs, a phono preamplifier, a DAC, a radio for FM as well as DAB, and an amplifier. Ultimately, everything is available that makes up a modern hi-fi chain and the new Magnat MC 400 can clearly be described as a so-called just add speaker device.

Analogue or digital

If you want to connect external sources to the Magnat MC 400, you can do so via analogue or digital inputs. In addition to two pairs of RCA sockets designated as AUX, there is also a phono input, which is of course the aforementioned phono preamplifier designed for MM cartridges. In this context, it should also be mentioned that a record out and a sub out are available. Directly at the front there is another line in, which is designed for portable devices in the form of a 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack. Right next to it is a connection for headphones.

For digital sources, there is an optical and coaxial S/PDIF interface, but what is particularly exciting is that the new Magnat MC 400 also has an HDMI input for direct connection to a TV set, which, in addition to HDMI CEC for central control with just one remote control, also has an ARC, i.e. an audio return channel.

In addition, a USB port allows direct use of corresponding storage media as a source.

Audio CD and Radio

We have already briefly mentioned that the new Magnat MC 400 with its slot-in drive is suitable for playing audio CDs, as well as the integrated radio, which supports FM as well as DAB or DAB+, so you are equipped for all types of play, especially since 40 station presets are offered.

Bluetooth 5.0 including aptX HD

If you want to use your smartphone or tablet directly as a source, the Bluetooth 5.0 module integrated into the new Magnat MC 400 is the easiest way to do so. This module comes from the specialist Qualcomm Inc. and supports not only the lossy codecs SBC and AAC, but also aptX and even aptX HD. Provided the source device supports this, signals can be transmitted at 24 bit and 48 kHz.

Network integration

The new Magnat MC 400 can be integrated into the network either via an RJ45 Ethernet interface or the integrated WiFi module according to IEEE 802.11n. Here, it functions as a flexible dlna-certified UPnP streaming client that can process signals in Linear PCM with up to 24 bits and 192 kHz. Using the Magnat Streaming App for Apple iOS and Google Android, multi-room audio streaming is also possible, as is access to various music streaming services such as TIDAL and Spotify, whereby the Magnat MC 400 also supports Spotify Connect for Spotify. Internet radio access is handled via TuneIn, allowing access to a worldwide range of radio programmes and podcasts.

Two times 60 watts of power

The amplifier integrated in the Magnat MC 400 delivers an output of twice 60 watts to speaker systems with an impedance of 4 ohms. It can rely on a generously dimensioned power supply and a low-stray-field toroidal transformer. The manufacturer explicitly emphasises that the power consumption in standby is particularly low.

Simple operation

As we have already mentioned, a separate app is available for streaming, but the new Magnat MC 400 can also be operated very easily and intuitively directly on the device. For this purpose, it offers not only a few buttons and a rotary encoder as well as a volume control on the front, but above all a 2.8 inch TFT display with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. This means that all relevant information is clearly legible at all times and, of course, cover artwork is also displayed when streaming.

The scope of delivery also includes a matching infrared remote control, which should also be mentioned at this point.

The new Magnat MC 400, with its solid metal housing, measures 433 x 115 x 301 mm and weighs 6.9 kg. The system is available in black.
