Lyngdorf MP-50 and Lyngdorf MP-60 – Upgrade to HDMI 2.1

All those who rely on either a Lyngdorf MP-50 or Lyngdorf MP-60 for their home cinema can now bring it up to the very latest technical standard. This is made possible by an HDMI 2.1 upgrade, which SL Audio A/S now offers for these two high-end AV systems of the Lyngdorf Audio brand. With this upgrade, the company is once again providing exemplary customer support, since these systems have been on the market for many years. The upgrade for the Lyngdorf MP-50 AV processor is available for solutions from 2018 to 2020, while the Lyngdorf MP-60 Surround Sound Processor is a solution from 2019 for which a successor model, the Lyngdorf MP-60 2.1, has long been available.

One of the first processors with HDMI functions

The current processor flagship was already upgraded to the latest technical standard in spring 2021, as the manufacturer explains, and is thus one of the first processors on the AV market to be equipped with the latest HDMI functions. For the best and most reliable HDMI performance, chips from the specialist Analog Devices Inc. are used.

The same technology and hardware is now available for the previous Lyngdorf MP-50 model, the manufacturer says, so that every owner can upgrade to the latest video and audio performance.

Lyngdorf MP-50 basically becomes Lyngdorf MP-60 2.1

The upgrade, which is being carried out at the company’s headquarters in Skive, Denmark, and includes a test run lasting over 24 hours, essentially upgrades the Lyngdorf MP-50 to a Lyngdorf MP-60 2.1, including the same HDMI board, connector panel and other features.

Also part of the upgrade is the matching DSP for multi-channel audio decoding, which increases native decoding from twelve to 16 channels and equips the Lyngdorf MP-50 for the latest immersive 3D surround formats Dolby Atmos as well as DTS:X.

The innovations in detail

The HDMI 2.1 upgrade will enable the Lyngdorf MP-50 to handle content in 8K 50/60 Hz at 40 Gbps as well as 4K 100/120 H at 18 Gbps, as described in the HDMI 2.1 specification. The solution is thus also equipped with an eARC, i.e. an enhanced Audio Return Channel, and supports the Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) modes. Added to this is support for static and dynamic HDR for an extended dynamic range as well as a wide colour gamut and, of course, HDCP 2.3 for the display of appropriately protected premium content.

Pricing and availability

As described earlier, the HDMI 2.1 upgrade requires a deep intervention in the Lyngdorf MP-50, which alone can be done directly at the manufacturer’s factory. The upgrade of the Lyngdorf MP-50 to the Lyngdorf MP-60 2.1 can be done from October to December 2022 and comes at a price of € 4.999,-.

It is also possible to upgrade to HDMI 2.1 for the first version of the Lyngdorf MP-60, says S/L Audio A/S, which does not require a new DSP board, so the cost is lower. For this upgrade option you only have to pay € 2.999,-.

Getting to the point

It is quite remarkable that SL Audio A/S now also offers an HDMI 2.1 upgrade for Lyngdorf Audio AV processors that have already been on the market for many years, namely for the Lyngdorf MP-50 from 2018 to 2020, as well as the first generation of the Lyngdorf MP-60. In both cases, the HDMI 2.1 upgrade now offered more or less transforms the solutions into the new Lyngdorf MP-60 2.1 processor flagship.
