Lyngdorf Audio Discreet Series, Lyngdorf Audio LS Series and Lyngdorf BW-20 Boundary Woofer

The company SL Audio A/S now presents seven new custom installation speakers and a boundary woofer under the Lyngdorf Audio brand, thus pushing the segment of custom installation systems. The focus here is on stereo and home cinema.

The new Lyngdorf Audio Discreet Series and Lyngdorf Audio LS Series represent a premiere for the company SL Audio A/S, because for the first time the Lyngdorf Audio brand presents custom installation loudspeakers. The company also presents the Lyngdorf BW-20 Passive Boundary Woofer to match.

Right from the start, the Custom Installation Range from SL Audio A/S is ideally positioned to realise high-quality projects in stereo as well as home cinema.

Seven new Custom Installation Loudspeakers

In fact, the Danish company is announcing seven new models, plus the subwoofer in question, of course.

SL Audio A/S lists four models in the Lyngdorf Audio Discreet Series, three solutions in the Lyngdorf Audio LS Series, and a BW Boundary Woofer. A special feature here is that the product lines seem to complement each other ideally, which means that the solutions allow a particularly flexible use for the most diverse requirements.

An immensely important product area

For the company SL Audio A/S, the area of custom installation has of course been a particularly important one for quite some time, after all, they are already very active in this flourishing market segment with solutions from Steinway & Lyngdorf. After all, the company can offer 15 different built-in, surface-mounted and ceiling-mounted loudspeaker systems.

The Lyngdorf Audio brand itself is also well equipped for the custom installation sector, even though it has so far concentrated solely on the electronics sector, offering solutions such as the Lyngdorf Audio MP-40 and Lyngdorf Audio MP-60 2.1 multi-channel processors.

What has now taken place is a technology transfer from one brand of the company to another, specifically from Steinway & Lyngdorf to Lyngdorf Audio. The declared aim of this step is to be able to cover complete solutions in the area of stereo and surround sound up to immersive surround sound with systems of the Lyngdorf Audio brand, and to do so at the high level of quality that customers have been accustomed to from this brand for years.

D steht für D diskret – Lyngdorf Audio Discreet Series

Wie könnte man einen Einbau-Lautsprecher wohl besser bezeichnen, als eine „diskrete“ Lösung? Genau das tut Lyngdorf Audio bei der Lyngdorf Audio Discreet Series, die gleich zu Beginn mit vier Modellen aufwarten kann.

Lyngdorf Audio D-500 und Lyngdorf Audio D-500 Center

Allen voran stechen bei der neuen Lyngdorf Audio Discreet Series die beiden Modelle Lyngdorf Audio D-500 und Lyngdorf Audio D-500 Center hervor, wobei es sich hierbei um Full-range Einbau-Lautsprecher-Systeme handelt, die mit geschlossenen Gehäuse aufwarten.

Ausgestattet sind die Lyngdorf Audio D-500 Modelle mit einem Hoch- und Mitteltöner sowie zwei passiven Tieftönern. Dadurch lassen sich diese Einbau-Lautsprecher-Systeme leicht ansteuern, sie spielen unterhalb von 50 Hz und eignen sich damit nach Ansicht des Herstellers für Systeme ohne Subwoofer in kleineren oder mittelgroßen Räumen.

Wie schon anhand der Bezeichnung zu erwarten handelt es sich beim Lyngdorf Audio D-500 um einen aufrecht, vertikaler konstruierten Lautsprecher, der für Stereo als auch Home Cinema ausgelegt ist. Der Lyngdorf Audio D-500 Center hingegen verfügt zwar über die gleichen Chassis, ist in einem horizontalen Design gestaltet.

Beide Modelle werden mit einem eigenen, vormontierten Lautsprechergehäuse geliefert, so dass keine Backbox oder ein geschlossener Wandhohlraum benötigt wird.

Lyngdorf Audio D-5 and Lyndorf Audio D-5 IC

The Lyngdorf Audio D-5 is a two-way loudspeaker with a midrange driver and a soft dome tweeter in a square cabinet. The midrange and tweeter are mounted close together, which the manufacturer claims allows for even sound dispersion and facilitates the integration of the Lyngdorf Audio D-5 as a surround speaker.

The second Lyngdorf D-5 IC model has an angled, adjustable tweeter. Together with the square cabinet design, this design allows the direction of sound to be aligned with the listening area, for example, to be optimally used as a treble or top speaker for immersive audio, with the speakers placed above or in front of or to the side or behind the listeners.

These two models also come with their own pre-assembled speaker enclosure, so they are designed as closed speakers, eliminating the need for an additional backbox or closed wall cavity.

LS or Line Source – Lyngdorf Audio LS Series

LS is nothing more than the name Line Source and thus solutions that are designed to reduce floor and ceiling reflections and to achieve an even sound radiation for a gripping sound experience, according to the promise of the Danish company SL Audio A/S.

The Lyngdorf Audio LS Series solutions are thus said to be designed for larger rooms or home theatres with multiple rows of seats.

The company claims that four LS-1000 modules together form a line source and thus a system that shines with high resolution, high dynamic range and high sensitivity. The special design based on multiple tweeters and midrange drivers ensures that the listener’s sitting height does not play as big a role here as with conventional speakers, where the ears usually have to be aligned with the tweeter. The so-called sweet spot, where the optimum quality is achieved, is very wide here, opening up clearly in all directions, according to SL Audio A/S. The special design means that here the sound is not too high.

The special design means that there is not only a special centre speaker, but also separate models for the left and right channels.

The Lyngdorf Audio LS-1000 Left and Lyngdorf Audio LS-1000 Right radiate sound inwards, away from the side wall and towards the listening area, when placed on the left and right sides respectively.

The Lyngdorf Audio LS-1000 Centre has the tweeters centred to give the wide dispersion desired. This makes it an ideal choice as a centre speaker behind an acoustically transparent screen, for example, but in some installations it can also be used for the left and right channels to achieve the widest possible listening area.

Lyngdorf Audio BW-20

Lyngdorf Audio’s product range in the custom installation sector is literally rounded off with the new Lyngdorf Audio BW-20.

This is a passive subwoofer with two 12-inch woofers in a large, stable cabinet that can be used both as an extension for stereo configurations and as an LFE speaker.

The overall construction, the depth of the cabinet and the satin finish are all designed to allow the Lyngdorf Audio BW-20 to be used for both wall mounting and in-room placement.

By the way, Boundary Woofer, also abbreviated as BW, stands for a concept pursued by Lyngdorf Audio in which the woofer should be placed near the rear wall, ideally directly in the front corners.

According to Lyngdorf Audio, this guarantees that the best impulse response is achieved, as delayed bass is not reflected by the walls, but the room acoustics are also exploited.

First and foremost, the company emphasises the high bandwidth of the Lyngdorf Audio BW-20, which is said to extend below 20 Hz, but also up to 500 Hz, so that seamless integration is possible even with smaller front speakers and with any type of crossover filter.

Other key features are the long-throw woofer with a displacement of +/- 20 mm and an IEC power handling of 700 W. The Lyngdorf Audio BW-20 is said to have a high power handling capacity. This should enable the Lyngdorf Audio BW-20 to reproduce even the lowest frequencies at a very high level.

Prices and availability

According to SL Audio A/S, the new Lyngdorf Audio brand custom installation solutions will be available in the first quarter of 2022.

The company lists a suggested retail price of €1,699 per unit for the Lyngdorf Audio Discreet Series models in the case of the Lyngdorf Audio D-500, and € 2.399,- per unit for the and Lyngdorf Audio D-500 Centre.

The Lyngdorf Audio D-5 and Lyndorf Audio D-5 IC solutions are available at prices of € 1.299,- and € 1.399,- respectively, both being unit prices.

For the models of the Lyngdorf Audio LS Series, one has to reckon with € 2.099,- per unit for the Lyngdorf Audio LS-1000 Left and € 2.199,- per unit for the Lyngdorf Audio LS-1000 Center.

The Lyngdorf BW-20 will be offered at a recommended retail price of € 3.599,-.
