KEF KW1 Wireless Subwoofer Adapter Kit

Especially for the wireless control of the subwoofers KEF KUBE 8b, KEF KUBE 10b, KEF KUBE 12b as well as KEF KF92 the so called KEF KW1 Wireless Subwoofer Adapter Kit will be available.

Of course, subwoofers are most often used in home theater environments; after all, when it comes to realistic reproduction of surround sound in movies, there must be no lack of correspondingly superior support in the lowest frequency range. However, subwoofers can also serve well in combination with classic stereo solutions to lend a little more emphasis to the reproduction in the truest sense of the word, especially when more compact speaker systems are used, such as so-called shelf speaker systems.

As with these systems, it is of course extremely practical if you don’t have to integrate the subwoofer by means of cables, since a subwoofer can be placed relatively freely in the room. And since subwoofers, even with the greatest commitment on the part of the product designers, are in the end, to put it bluntly, rather clunky speakers that are not really a great visual adornment for a living room, many users also try to hide them as discreetly as possible. It is of course very helpful not to have to worry about cables, and wireless solutions such as the new KEF KW1 Wireless Subwoofer Adapter Kit from the English loudspeaker specialist KEF for selected subwoofers in their range are very popular.

The new KEF KW1 Wireless Subwoofer Adapter Kit consists of a transmitter and a receiver, and is designed for selected KEF subwoofers, specifically the current KEF KUBE Series and KEF KF92. The wireless transmission is intended to be of high quality without compression and with low latency, so that lip-synchronous playback is still guaranteed in home cinema, for example, and timing is absolutely perfect even in stereo.

The signal transmission of the new KEF KW1 Wireless Subwoofer Adapter Kit is wireless, although the English state that this is done in the 5 GHz band. In concrete terms, the connection can be made at 5.2 or 5.8 MHz, with an advanced automatic radio channel selection system guaranteeing a reliable connection every time. Audio data is transmitted at 24 bits and 48 kHz, with a latency of only 17 ms. The range of the KEF KW1 Wireless Subwoofer Adapter Kit is of course not unimportant for such solutions. KEF specifies a range of up to 15 metres for the KEF KW1 Wireless Subwoofer Adapter Kit, and even up to 30 metres in direct line of sight, although this is unlikely to be necessary.

The coupling of transmitter and receiver is basically automatic at the touch of a button, so the manufacturer speaks of an intuitive, simple set-up.

The transmitter of the KEF KW1 Wireless Subwoofer Adapter Kit is powered directly via USB, while the receiver is to be powered directly via the subwoofer expansion connector. As a result, the new KEF KW1 Wireless Subwoofer Adapter Kit cannot be used with every subwoofer, but, as mentioned above, the current KEF KUBE Series models, specifically the KEF KUBE 8b, KEF KUBE 10b, KEF KUBE 12b and the KEF KF92.

Speaking of interplay, KEF is of course listing the KEF Wireless Music Systems KEF LSX and KEF LS50 Wireless as systems where the addition of a subwoofer using the new KEF KW1 Wireless Subwoofer Adapter Kit is particularly worthwhile for an even more superior performance.

The new KEF KW1 Wireless Subwoofer Adapter Kit is expected to be available in September 2020, with KEF likely to offer this solution via its own website. The recommended retail price is also shown here, which is € 199,-.
