JLab JBuds Frames – Wireless audio experience on the glasses frame

The new JLab JBuds Frames from JLab is an audio solution specially designed for people who wear glasses. This is a solution that is basically a pair of headphones in open-ear design and is fixed to a pair of glasses.

Admittedly, the new JLab JBuds Frames are not a normal, common concept for music consumption on the go, but rather a very unusual product. JLab wants to offer an audio solution that is aimed at people who wear glasses, because the new JLab JBuds Frames are designed for this purpose alone.

Instead of conventional headphones, the JLab JBuds Frames can be mounted on any pair of glasses and thus bring music to the ears as a so-called open-ear design.

JLab JBuds Frames – sound for the glasses

In principle, the new JLab JBuds Frames are two mini Bluetooth speakers, as the manufacturer describes them. They are mounted directly on the two arms of the glasses, using 16 mm drivers. As described above, an open-ear design is used, which means that unlike conventional in-ear headphones, there is nothing in the user’s ear, but rather the drivers are located directly in front of the ears.

Nevertheless, the manufacturer claims that the user can enjoy a fine sound, with a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz. At least at moderate volume, the surroundings are said to hardly notice anything of the music, so you can use the JLab JBuds Frames without any problems in almost any environment where you would also use normal headphones.

However, and this is one of the great advantages of the JLab JBuds Frames, the user is not disconnected from the environment, but rather can consciously perceive his surroundings.

This also applies to telephone calls that can be made via the JLab JBuds Frames, as they are equipped with integrated microphones. For optimal speech quality, each of the two modules has an integrated microphone.

Bluetooth 5.0 for signal transmission

The signal transmission from the source device to the JLab JBuds frames is of course via Bluetooth, whereby Bluetooth 5.0 is used, as JLab reports.

The connection between the source device and both components is established individually via the so-called dual-connect technology, so that in principle they can also be used individually, for example to make phone calls.

Of course, the JLab JBuds Frames have controls to control the volume and playback, as well as to accept and end phone calls.

You can also switch between the EQ settings “Signature” and “Bass Boost” at the touch of a button.

Individually adaptable to different glasses

While conventional in-ear headphones come with a wide variety of ear adapters, these headphones come with different silicone sleeves for different sizes of glasses, so that a secure fit is always guaranteed.

The manufacturer refers to this as a so-called BYOF design, where this stands for bring your own frame, and allows use on a wide variety of glasses, from reading glasses to sunglasses.

The new JLab JBuds frames are IPX4 certified and therefore resistant to splashing water, such as rain, so that they can be used in a wide range of weather conditions without any problems.

Prices and availability

The new JLab JBuds Frames are to be available immediately from online retailers on the various platforms. The recommended retail price is listed at € 59.99. The scope of delivery includes, as described, four silicone sleeves, as well as a charger, but also a glasses case, which is supposed to protect the glasses together with the mounted JLab JBuds Frames.

Getting to the point

It’s a thoroughly interesting concept that JLab is pursuing with the new JLab JBuds Frames. It’s an audio solution that essentially does the job of a headphone, but doesn’t have to be put in the ear like an in-ear headphone, for example, but instead is simply mounted on a pair of glasses. We speak of in-ear headphones because the principle of the JLab JBuds Frame is most similar to this type, but addresses users who do not like headphones in the conventional sense.
