JBL 4309 Studio Monitor – In classic design…

75 years of experience concentrated in a compact loudspeaker system, that’s how the new JBL 4309 Studio Monitor is supposed to present itself, with which, once again, visual references are also made to the long tradition of the JBL brand and a timeless retro style is set.

JBL 4309 Studio Monitor, another loudspeaker system will soon be available that pays homage to the long tradition of the JBL brand – specifically JBL Synthesis – in every respect.

In a compact form, all the advantages that distinguish the JBL brand are to be displayed here, according to the description by Harman Luxury Audio, the wholly owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. that is responsible for high-quality hi-fi solutions as part of Harman International Industries.

JBL 4309 Studio Monitor – The combination of history and modernity

At first glance, it’s clear that the new JBL 4309 Studio Monitor skilfully plays with the style of days long gone by, developing a loudspeaker system that uses an elegant, timeless retro style. Of course, this is a clear reference to the company’s 75 years of experience in the field of loudspeaker development, but it also does justice to the current trend towards vintage hi-fi.

But the said retro style should not be misunderstood, because from a technical point of view, the JBL 4309 Studio Monitor is supposed to offer the most modern features. This is a skilful combination of history and modernity.

Based on the JBL 4349 Studio Monitor model.

When designing the new JBL 4309 Studio Monitor, the developers took their cue from the JBL 4349 Studio Monitor, which, as is well known, is a design with a 12-inch driver implemented as a two-way bass reflex system. The new JBL 4309 Studio Monitor is essentially intended to be a slightly more compact design, but at its core it offers the same advantages and also relies on a variety of patented, characteristic features.

Power, dynamics and accuracy

The new JBL 4309 Studio Monitor is also designed as a two-way bass reflex system, although a 6.5-inch woofer is used. This driver uses a diaphragm made of pure cellulose and features, among other things, a solid cast frame and a powerful drive unit.

The initial focus is on a JBL 2410H 2-inch compression driver, which takes over the task of tweeter. This is combined with a so-called high-definition imaging horn, also known as HDI horn at JBL. This was developed by JBL in Northridge, California, and is said to provide powerful dynamics and incredibly accurate sound reproduction, as the manufacturer puts it on record.

“The JBL 4309’s powerful woofer, compression driver and horn work extremely harmoniously together to deliver pinpoint reproduction with the highest quality and accuracy that is virtually impossible with traditional speaker design. While the acoustic performance of the JBL 4309 is outstanding. We expect the speaker to be well received by music lovers who want the performance of the JBL 4349 in a more compact size.”

Classic JBL Monitor Design

The JBL 4309 Studio Monitor offers a classic JBL monitor design, the manufacturer says, highlighting first and foremost the blue baffle, calling this an almost iconic design element. The body is made of MDF and finished with a glossy walnut veneer.

The customer can choose between two design variants, namely walnut and black, whereby the first option uses a loudspeaker grille with blue textile covering, the second one with a black grille.

Equipped for bi-wiring and bi-amping

Harman Luxury Audio particularly emphasises that the new JBL 4309 Studio Monitor has a connection panel that is equipped for both bi-wiring and bi-amping. This means that two pairs of gold-plated connection ports are available.

“Our high-performance studio monitors are among the most popular JBL models in the world because they are simply unique. The combination of heritage pro-style aesthetics and cutting-edge acoustic technologies packed into the 4309’s compact format produces a fantastic speaker that discerning hi-fi listeners will love.”

Classic JBL Monitor Design

The new JBL 4309 Studio Monitor is expected to be in stores as early as June 2021. The company is quoting a suggested retail price of €2,000 per pair for this solution.

Getting to the point

The new JBL 4309 Studio Monitor is yet another loudspeaker system from the JBL brand that skilfully plays with the long tradition of the US specialist and accordingly picks up design elements from days long gone. However, even though the vintage design, which the manufacturer describes as iconic, is used here, the technical equipment should rely solely on the most modern technologies in order to guarantee convincing sound with accurate dynamics and detail reproduction, even in this case with compact dimensions.
