Geneva DeCon – HiFi De-constructed…

The fact that Geneva Lab has always gone its own way in designing audio systems should not be new, but with the latest addition, they are presenting a radically different solution. It is not for nothing that they simply called it Geneva DeCon.

For years, Geneva Lab has been dedicated to providing audio solutions that are both flexible and elegant, in other words, products that not only meet the highest standards of functionality, but also allow easy integration into the home environment. In short, Geneva Lab sees itself as a supplier of high-quality consumer electronics systems that can be described as lifestyle solutions in the best sense of the word.

HiFi simplified, this is how Geneva Lab now describes its latest solution, Geneva DeCon, which breaks with existing conventions and presents itself as a system that serves a single purpose, namely, high-quality music enjoyment wherever and however the user wants it. It is a solution that can be perfectly integrated into any living environment, with state-of-the-art features, ease of use, flexibility of use and outstanding design.

HiFi deconstructed is another keyword that Geneva Lab will be presenting at the presentation of its latest solution, and it is a further indication of the new approach to the new Geneva DeCon.

According to the manufacturer, the new Geneva DeCon is a conscious decision to opt for a device that does not have any controls whatsoever, as these are not necessary in the classic form. The music playback is thus primarily controlled by mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, which also serve as the primary source. However, apps alone are not the only things one wants to rely on, as the new Geneva DeCon comes with at least one classic remote control, although it is not an infrared but a radio remote control.

The new Geneva DeCon is therefore initially based on integration into the network, although this can of course be done via WiFi. In the network, this solution acts as a streaming client, with support for Apple AirPlay 2 and Google Chromecast, covering the two most important technology platforms in interaction with smartphones and tablets. This also means that Geneva DeCon can also be part of a multi-room audio streaming system using these streaming technologies, giving you direct access not only to your own content but also to all relevant online streaming services. All that is required is the appropriate app, including Internet radio and podcasts.

If you focus on mobile devices in this way, of course you should not miss your own app, which is available in the form of the Geneva All-in-One Music Player App for Apple iOS and Google Android.

But the new Geneva DeCon does not rely solely on the network; mobile devices can be used as sources without a network infrastructure, via Bluetooth. This also allows visitors to play their music directly.

As if that wasn’t enough, Geneva Lab sees the new Geneva DeCon as a true all-in-one system for the living room, offering the possibility of integrating other important sources, especially of course a television. To this end, the new Geneva DeCon is equipped with an HDMI interface, which of course supports an ARC, i.e. an audio return channel. In addition, there is an S/PDIF interface as a further digital input and a line in for analogue sources.

The signal processing in the new Geneva DeCon is carried out by a DSP, whereby the manufacturer emphasises the use of particularly innovative algorithms developed in-house to guarantee optimum performance quality.

Geneva DeCon uses two 1-inch tweeters, two 5 1/4-inch woofers and an 8-inch subwoofer, driven by three Class D amplifiers with a total of six channels. This means that a total output of a remarkable 500 watts is available to guarantee truly rich sound, according to the manufacturer’s promise. Expressed in bare figures, this means that the new Geneva DeCon can cover a frequency range between 20 Hz and 35 kHz.

Geneva Lab refers to the design of the new Geneva DeCon as a monolith, a solution that is not intended to be a conventional audio system at all, but rather an elegant piece of furniture. Consequently, the developers of Geneva DeCon have chosen to use noble materials, namely wood in combination with aluminium and a high-quality textile covering on the front. The system measures 45 x 40 x 78 cm when it stands on its stainless steel base, which makes it less compact and weighs a whopping 40 kg.

Three design variants are available: a Black Wood and Brass version, a White Wood and Black Aluminium version and a third option, Walnut Wood and Champagne Aluminium.

As already mentioned, a remote control is included in the scope of delivery. It should be mentioned that this remote control has also been designed to a very high standard and is made of aluminium.

All three versions will be available shortly. The manufacturer states a recommended retail price of € 1,995 for the new Geneva DeCon.
