FiiO M6 Hi-res Lossless Music Player – First with FiiO Link…

With the new FiiO M6 Hi-res Lossless Music Player, FiiO Electronics Technology Co Ltd. now presents another portable Hi-res audio player based on the Samsung Exynos 7270 platform, bringing the latest technologies from smartphone development to this area, coupled with high quality DACs for optimal sound quality.

Already in March 2018, the specialist for personal audio devices such as portable hi-fi audio players, portable D/A converters and headphone amplifiers as well as headphones, FiiO Electronics Technology Co Ltd. presented the new FiiO M7 High Resolution Lossless Audio Player. This solution was and is particularly interesting because it stands out with some essential features from the long list of so-called DAPs, i.e. digital audio players.

The FiiO M7 High Resolution Lossless Audio Player is the first to incorporate technologies that are directly derived from the development of current smartphones, namely a platform developed by Samsung, the Samsung Exynos 7 Dual Series.

This wise move ensures that solutions equipped in this way feature a variety of technologies in a state-of-the-art form that are also highly relevant in the field of portable hi-fi players, such as high performance with very low power consumption, a solid platform for the optimal use of current operating systems, and last but not least the direct implementation of essential interfaces such as WiFi and Bluetooth.

At the end of September 2018, FiiO Electronics Technology Co Ltd. introduced the new FiiO M9 High Resolution Lossless Music Player, another solution based on the Samsung platform, and now the next will follow with the new FiiO M6 Hi-res Lossless Music Player.

The new FiiO M6 Hi-res Lossless Music Player is the third product from FiiO Electronics Technology Co Ltd based on the Samsung Exynos 7210 platform, and the company once again highlights the benefits of this new product. In addition to those already mentioned, this is also the particularly compact form factor, as the high level of integration of various components in the form of so-called SiP-ePoP, i.e. System-in-Package and embedded Package on Package, allows not only slim smartphones, but also slim portable hi-res audio players without having to sacrifice functionality and performance.

The new FiiO M6 Hi-res Lossless Music Player features a slightly different design than the previous solutions in this series, with the manufacturer referring to it as a “bezel-less design”. The player measures 53.3 mm in width, 92.5 mm in length, and 11.5 mm in height and weighs no more than 83 g. The housing is made of aluminium, in one piece by CNC, and is anodized black afterwards.

The 3.2 inch IPS HD touchscreen display, coupled with a few function keys on the side of the player for direct playback control, guarantees simple operation.

Of course, this player is equipped with WiFi so that you can directly access various streaming services. The manufacturer lists various Third-party Apps, such as NetEase Cloud Music, MOOV, TIDAL and KKBOX, which are pre-installed, although not all of them are relevant for the local market. Spotify, Qobuz, Roon, Deezer, JOOX, ES File Explorer and many more are also listed as so-called whitelisted apps. This means that you can install them yourself if you wish.

It is also interesting to note that the manufacturer actually equips the new player with Apple AirPlay. This promises “High fidelity sound for Apple users”, for example, when an Apple iPhone transmits music to the FiiO M6 Hi-res Lossless Music Player via Apple AirPlay so that its high-quality signal processing can be used.

Of course, Bluetooth is not to be missed either, whereby one relies on Bluetooth 4.2 and supports not only SBC, AAC, HWA and aptX but also aptX LL, aptX HD and even LDAC.

An ESS Sabre 9018Q23C DAC is responsible for impeccable signal processing, whereby all relevant formats are supported.

The internal memory of the FiiO M6 Hi-res Lossless Music Player is equipped with 2 GByte, and can be expanded with microSD and microSDXC cards.

Headphones are connected via a 3.5 mm stereo mini jack socket, the integrated battery is charged via a USB-C interface, which is also used for data exchange with a PC or Mac. It is also possible to use the portable player as DAC on a Mac and PC.

The integrated battery has a capacity of 1,200 mAh, so the new M6 should have a playing time of up to 13 hours. By means of so-called deep standby, the player should be ready to play for 26 days.

Interestingly, FiiO Electronics Technology Co Ltd. is introducing FiiO Link for the first time with the new FiiO M6 Hi-res Lossless Music Player. FiiO Link will allow the portable audio player to be controlled directly from a smartphone via an app for Google Android and Apple iOS.

When and at what price the new FiiO M6 Hi-res Lossless Music Player will be available is not yet known. However, FiiO Electronics Technology Co Ltd. is expected to release this information soon, as initial information about this new solution is already being shared on the company’s Facebook site…
