Dali WSR Wireless Subwoofer Receiver for Dali EQUI Wireless Platform

With the new Dali WSR Wireless Subwoofer Receiver, any subwoofer can easily be used as part of the Dali EQUI Wireless Platform. This enables wireless control via the Dali Sound Hub or Dali Sound Hub Compact.

The task of the new Dali WSR Wireless Subwoofer Receiver is to turn any subwoofer into a “wirelessly” controlled subwoofer. The actual special feature, however, is that any subwoofer becomes part of the Dali EQUI Wireless platform and thus part of a “wireless” stereo or surround sound system.

This seemingly simple product is therefore an essential part of the strategy of Dali Speaker A/S to push the topic of wirelessly controlled active speaker systems under the term Dali EQUI Wireless.

The DAli EQUI Wireless Platform

With the Dali EQUI Wireless Platform, Dali Speaker A/S is pursuing the concept of uniting active loudspeaker systems controlled by radio and high-resolution signal transmission in the most diverse forms and in different product lines into one system. Thus, the Danes combine the currently available systems of the Dali CALLISTO C Series, Dali OBERON C Series and Dali RUBICON C Series under this term and thus make it clear that these solutions can be combined in any way, but in any case they are all based on one platform.

The launch of Dali EQUI Wireless also goes hand in hand with the introduction of new products that significantly expand the possibilities of the speaker series, first and foremost offering surround sound in addition to stereo, thus enabling use for home cinema solutions.

Dali WSR Wireless Subwoofer Receiver

When it comes to home cinema, there is one component that should not be missing: a subwoofer. This is indispensable for the reproduction of surround sound, but can also be of good service in a stereo environment, for example in combination with compact bookshelf speaker systems.

Of course, it has always been possible to integrate a subwoofer via the central component of the active speaker systems, the Dali Sound Hub or Dali Sound Hub Compact, even if only via cable.

However, when talking about a “wireless” system, it should of course also be possible to integrate a subwoofer without a cable, and Dali Speaker now offers the new Dali WSR Wireless Subwoofer Receiver as the optimal solution.

It is an almost inconspicuous looking receiver that transforms any subwoofer into a “wireless” controlled subwoofer and is no larger than 62 x 76 x 25 mm.

The signal is transmitted wirelessly from the Dali Sound Hub or Dali Sound Hub Compact, using a proprietary wireless protocol with 24-bit, 96 kHz signal transmission and minimal latency.

The Dali WSR Wireless Subwoofer Receiver has an RCA connection to which the subwoofer is connected in the conventional way via its Line In. The receiver is powered via USB-C and a corresponding power supply unit; perhaps the subwoofer already offers a suitable interface with the necessary 5 V and 0.5 A.

Automatic adjustment of the crossover frequency

It is exciting that the user does not have to carry out any configuration around the Dali WSR Wireless Subwoofer Receiver, the connection between Dali Sound Hub or Dali Sound Hub Compact and the receiver is done at the push of a button anyway.

Since the use of the new Dali WSR Wireless Subwoofer Receiver with any subwoofer always goes hand in hand with speaker systems of the Dali EQUI Wireless platform, their characteristics are “known” to the system and it can automatically adapt the crossover frequency accordingly.

Stereo with the Dali Sound Hub Compact, Surround with the Dali Sound Hub

One thing must be emphasised in any case, and that is the different application scenarios. The Dali Sound Hub Compact only supports stereo, in combination with the Dali WSR Wireless Subwoofer Receiver you can “only” realise a 2.1 channel system.

The Dali Sound Hub on the other hand, with the new Dali HDMI module, also supports surround with 5.1 or even 7.1 channels, in Dolby Digital as well as DTS.

The new Dali WSR Wireless Subwoofer Receiver should be available in specialist shops in the course of the year. The manufacturer’s recommended retail price is € 149.

Getting to the point

Up to now it has been possible to integrate an additional subwoofer around the central interfaces of the Dali CALLISTO C Series, Dali OBERON C Series and Dali RUBICON C Series, the Dali Sound Hub and Dali Sound Hub Compact. However, in contrast to the actual active speaker systems, one had to resort to a cable for this. With the introduction of the Dali EQUI Wireless platform, Dali Speaker A/S announced the expansion of the possibilities around the mentioned product series, which are now united under the new brand name. First and foremost, this includes the expansion from stereo to surround, whereby it is now also possible to control subwoofers “wirelessly”, and indeed any subwoofer. This is made possible by the new Dali WSR Wireless Subwoofer Receiver.
