D’Agostino Momentum M400 MxV Mono Amplifier – A New Level of Performance

Dan D’Agostino Master Audio Systems LLC. now presents a new product line as an upgrade of the D’Agostino Momentum, namely the D’Agostino Momentum MxV Series with the D’Agostino Momentum M400 MxV Mono Amplifier at the top.

The new D’Agostino Momentum M400 MxV Mono Amplifier is not only a particularly powerful amplifier, it is also the top model of the new D’Agostino Momentum MxV Series, which is to be understood as an upgrade of the D’Agostino Momentum Series.

The step from the solutions of the D’Agostino Momentum Series to the new D’Agostino Momentum MxV Series brings the amplifier systems to a completely new performance level, according to the promise of Dan D’Agostino Master Audio Systems LLC.

D’Agostino Momentum MxV Series – A new performance level

The new D’Agostino Momentum MxV Series uses the same chassis as the D’Agostino Momentum Series, but inside there is a newly developed circuitry that has been optimised compared to previous systems, according to the US high-end hi-fi manufacturer.

According to the company, this leads to a significant step forward when it comes to the performance of the amplifiers, especially the new D’Agostino Momentum M400 MxV Mono Amplifier.

MxV – mass times acceleration…

The company has come up with something very special for the product name, because behind it lies Newton’s second law. This states that force equals mass times acceleration, translated into English: Mass times Velocity is the equation for Momentum, i.e. MxV.

Back to the roots

The original D’Agostino Momentum Mono Amplifier was the first product designed and manufactured by the company, and the latest version, the D’Agostino Momentum M400 MxV Mono Amplifier, aims to take this iconic design to its highest level. The D’Agostino Momentum M400 MxV Mono Amplifier features techniques and topologies originally developed for the D’Agostino Relentless Mono Amplifier.

Improvements across the board

Every important part of the amplifier – power supply, input stage, driver stage and output stage – has been improved in this evolution, according to Dan D’Agostino Master Audio Systems LLC.

A new transformer winding pattern delivers more than 50 per cent more output current in the same footprint, he said. This additional current provides greater headroom during dynamic passages.

A redesigned input stage combines a brand new circuit topology with advanced components that feed the driver and output stages. Crucial to the new circuitry are the bipolar transistors, which deliver ten times more current and power than the original components. These wider-bandwidth, higher-power components extend low-frequency and high-frequency performance and reduce distortion in both frequency ranges.

The driver stage is powered by a new bias stability circuit that enables almost 50 per cent higher operating bias. The increase in Class A operation correlates directly with better sound quality.

To cope with the waste heat, the manufacturer uses the well-known and, according to the manufacturer, unique copper heat sinks, so that thermal problems should not be an issue with the D’Agostino Momentum M400 MxV Mono Amplifier.

Additional power transistors in the output stage reduce the workload for each individual component. By minimising the load on each individual component, the entire output stage operates more efficiently. The result is said to be a richer, more dynamic and more intimate presentation, regardless of musical genre.

The final output stage features new output transistors originally developed for the flagship D’Agostino Relentless Monoblock Amplifier. The high-power transistors used in the D’Agostino Momentum M400 MxV Mono Amplifier are among the fastest on the market, using 26 at once, running at 69 MHz, giving the amplifier an especially wide bandwidth.

Each transistor is fitted with two stainless steel fasteners to ensure maximum heat transfer to the copper heat sinks. A capacitor/resistor network connected to the base of each transistor ensures stability even at high frequencies and low impedance speakers.

In addition, each output transistor is measured and only components that meet the required performance specifications are included in the production of the D’Agostino Momentum M400 MxV Mono Amplifier. Like all Dan D’Agostino Master Audio Systems LLC. models, the D’Agostino Momentum M400 MxV Mono Amplifier is said to feature discrete, direct-coupled, balanced circuitry, which is the most accurate circuit platform available.

Pure performance

Despite its compact size, the D’Agostino Momentum M400 MxV Mono Amplifier is an outstandingly powerful amplifier. The backbone is the new ultra-quiet 1,800 VA linear transformer with almost 50 percent more output current. This drives a capacitor bank with almost 100,000 F, which allows an output power of 400 watts at speaker systems with 8 ohms, 800 watts at 4 ohms, or even 1,600 W 2 ohms.

This makes it clear that the new D’Agostino Momentum M400 MxV Mono Amplifier is capable of driving any loudspeaker to its full potential.

By the way, with dimensions of 31.75 x 54.61 x 13.34 cm, the new D’Agostino Momentum M400 MxV Mono Amplifier weighs in at an impressive 43 kg.

The new amplifier is offered first and foremost in the silver finish, a so-called black custom finish is available on request.

Getting to the point

With the new D’Agostino Momentum M400 MxV Mono Amplifier, Dan D’Agostino Master Audio Systems LLC. heralds a new generation of the D’Agostino Momentum Series of amplifiers, and how could it be otherwise, once again the US-American high-end hi-fi forge exhausts everything to create true performance bolides.
