Canor Hyperion P1 Vacuum Tube Preamplifier – With an especially fine sound

The Canor Hyperion P1 Vacuum Tube Preamplifier is the perfect partner for the Canor Virtus M1 Vacuum Tube Power Amplifier, featuring tube technology and Class A operation.

The Canor Hyperion P1 Vacuum Tube Preamplifier is a preamplifier that appears very simple at first glance, at least with regard to the features offered here. However, this should not mislead you, because it is actually a solution that will make the heart of many a hi-fi enthusiast beat faster. And this is precisely because the developers at Canor spol. s.r.o. have concentrated on the absolute essentials with this new preamplifier, namely impeccable signal processing free of sound-damaging influences.

The fact that they rely on tube technology and a pure Class A circuit design, and that they do without negative feedback, also speaks for the Canor Hyperion P1 Vacuum Tube Preamplifier.

The perfect playing partners – Canor Hyperion P1 Vacuum Tube Preamplifier and Canor Virtus M1 Vacuum Tube Power Amplifier

First of all, it should be mentioned that, from the point of view of Canor spol. s.r.o., the new Canor Hyperion P1 Vacuum Tube Preamplifier is the perfect partner for the Canor Virtus M1 Vacuum Tube Power Amplifier, which is also now available in specialist shops.

With the combination of the Canor Hyperion P1 Vacuum Tube Preamplifier and two Canor Virtus M1 Vacuum Tube Power Amplifiers, the audiophile hi-fi enthusiast can build a truly impressive chain.

Canor Hyperion P1 Vacuum Tube Preamplifier – Class A without negative feedback

The heart of the Canor Hyperion P1 Vacuum Tube Preamplifier is a construction around tubes, specifically four glass pistons of the 6922 type and two 6H30PI are used. This alone would not be a special feature, after all, the Slovakian company Canor spol. s.r.o. has always been a proven tube specialist.

What is interesting is that the circuit concept is based on Class A and does without a so-called over-all negative feedback.

According to the manufacturer, the declared aim of this special concept is to achieve a particularly musical performance, a very realistic, natural sound, as the company itself puts it.

A power supply specially developed for this preamplifier is supposed to ensure this, as well as a symmetrical construction up to the particularly precise volume control, the control of which is also galvanically separated via optical drivers.

Solid aluminium chassis

The chassis, too, is designed to ensure that the signal processing is free of sound-damaging external influences, so it is particularly solid and made of aluminium. With dimensions of 450 x 190 x 465 mm, it weighs an incredible 35 kg.

One reason for this is that the signal-processing part of the preamplifier is separated from the power section by a solid aluminium wall with a wall thickness of no less than 10 mm.

Interference or vibrations should therefore not be an issue, that can be stated with certainty.

Focused on the essentials

It’s easy to explain why we started by talking about a preamplifier that is comparatively simple and straightforward. If you look around on the market, you will quickly notice that the trend is often towards highly integrated solutions. Amplifiers, be it integrated amplifiers or preamplifiers, usually have numerous functional units. In addition to analogue and digital inputs, streaming functionality in various versions is often a must. As many tasks as possible should be handled by a single component.

The approach chosen by Canor spol. s.r.o. i for the Canor Hyperion P1 Vacuum Tube Preamplifier, however, is completely different. Here, only analogue inputs are available, this preamplifier has neither an integrated D/A converter nor any streaming functionality, and even the phono preamplifier, which is often considered a standard, is not available here.

Five unbalanced analogue inputs in the form of pairs of RCA sockets, one of which can optionally be used as a pre-out with fixed level, four balanced inputs designed as XLR connectors, that’s all the Canor Hyperion P1 Vacuum Tube Preamplifier has in store for external sources.

The same applies to the outputs: one pair RCA, two pairs XLR, i.e. unbalanced and balanced, and that’s it.

Prices and availability

The new Canor Hyperion P1 Vacuum Tube Preamplifier is available immediately from specialist dealers. The manufacturer quotes a recommended retail price of € 11.000,- for this preamplifier and offers it in either black or silver.

Getting to the point

The new Canor Hyperion P1 Vacuum Tube Preamplifier is not meant to show off with enormous features, but is rather dedicated to a simple concept of highest signal quality. The developers of Canor spol. s.r.o. deliberately avoid a highly integrated solution, D/A converter, streaming, phono preamplifier or headphone amplifier, but instead focus on a circuit concept designed for the highest sound fidelity, which relies on Class A realised in tube technology, and does without a so-called over-all negative feedback.
