Cambridge Audio Melomania Touch – New True Wireless In-ear headphones

With the new Cambridge Audio Melomania Touch, the latest member of the Cambridge Audio Melomania Series, a so-called True Wireless In-ear headphone will be available, which offers long battery life, intuitive operation, once again the Great British Sound propagated by the manufacturer, but also maximum wearing comfort.

In the middle of last year, the English hi-fi company Cambridge Audio presented an inear headphone for the first time and thus entered a truly hotly contested market. Numerous manufacturers are active with their solutions in this area, which has been flourishing for years, so much so that every supplier can find his target group with correspondingly high-quality solutions.

And Cambridge Audio had a very fine headphone in its range, the Cambridge Audio Melomania 1, a so-called True Wireless In-ear headphone and thus a model that enjoys the highest popularity among customers. Absolute freedom of movement is very popular with consumers, so just like Cambridge Audio with the Cambridge Audio Melomania 1, they focus on fine sound, high wearing comfort and a long battery life.

With the latest model Cambridge Audio Melomania Touch, the English hi-fi manufacturer Cambridge Audio now wants to present a model superior to the previous Cambridge Audio Melomania 1. All the features that distinguished the first model of the Cambridge Audio Melomania Series are said to have been further refined, according to the manufacturer’s promise. The Cambridge Audio Melomania Touch, for example, features a new form factor, a new, particularly intuitive operating concept, a particularly long battery life and, of course, the tried and tested Great British Sound typical of Cambridge Audio.

And if you wonder where the rather unusual name of the headphones comes from, you can take a look at the fully equipped club for live concerts, which is located in the basement of Cambridge Audio’s headquarters in London. Melomania, a synonym for “crazy about music” is the name of the club, and the same name was also chosen for the headphones of the English company to express exactly this passion for unadulterated music reproduction and thus highest fidelity. As mentioned above, this is often referred to as the Great British Sound, to which they have been committed for years.

To guarantee the particularly outstanding sound, the drivers of the Cambridge Audio Melomania Touch, dynamic drivers with a diameter of 7 mm and specially optimised graphene diaphragm, naturally contribute first and foremost. Another essential feature in this context is a triple-core processor, which is not only responsible for the communication of the Cambridge Audio Melomania Touch with the respective source device via Bluetooth 5.0, but is also used as DSP for signal processing. It is a subsystem consisting of a Dual-Core 32 Bot processor and a Qualcpmm QCC3020 Single-Core 120 MHz Kalimba DSP. This is to guarantee an always optimal control of the drivers as well as various adjustments by the user according to individual preferences. This also enables a so-called high-performance mode.

“With our new High-Performance Mode, sound enthusiasts can elicit the last additional bit of fidelity from the already excellent sounding Melomania Touch. To achieve this, our development team has integrated the same Class A/B amplifier technology used in our award-winning Cambridge Audio CX Series integrated amplifiers. This is a world premiere in the in-ear area. It gives us a much wider sound stage with less noise and distortion, for a more intense sound experience than ever before.”

James Johnson-Flint, CEO Cambridge Audio

As already mentioned, the signal connection to the source device in the new Cambridge Audio Melomania Touch is via Bluetooth 5.0, supporting the A2DP, AVRCP, HSP and HFP profiles, while the codecs include SBC, AAC and aptX, so that signal transmission in “CD quality” is just as guaranteed on smartphones with Apple iOS as on those with Google Android. By the way, the frequency response of the Cambridge Audio Melomania Touch is specified with the usual 20 Hz to 20 kHz, just like in this class and in view of the key data just mentioned.

Of course, the new Cambridge Audio Melomania Touch has integrated microphones to make phone calls, but also to use voice control solutions like Apple Siri and Google Assistant. These are to be particularly high-quality microphones, so-called MEMS with cVC noise suppression, so that the best possible speech quality is guaranteed.

This microphone is also used to fade in or out ambient noise with a single fingertip using the so-called Transparency Mode, in short, to be able to perceive the surroundings even if you have your inear headphones in your ear.

These headphones are particularly good at blocking out ambient noise, even if the Cambridge Audio Melomania Touch are not equipped with active noise cancellation. This guarantees a particularly good fit and therefore a particularly high level of wearing comfort.

To achieve this, Cambridge Audio has relied on an extensive field study to develop the new Cambridge Audio Melomania Touch. More than 3,000 ear impressions served the developers as the basis for a completely redesigned housing, which is designed to fit seamlessly with the ear cup. In combination with a wide range of different earpieces and ear wings included in the scope of delivery, the Cambridge Audio Melomania Touch is designed to provide the perfect fit for every user, even after hours of use.

And the new Cambridge Audio Melomania Touch provides the perfect basis for enjoying music for hours on end, as the battery life for this is specified by the manufacturer as a remarkable nine hours. The scope of delivery once again includes a transport case that functions as a mobile charging station and is intended to guarantee a further 41 hours of music enjoyment far from the power outlet, which adds up to a remarkable 50 hours.

The new Cambridge Audio Melomania Touch is operated by touch, with touch gesture control. This not only controls playback and volume, but also allows calls to be made and voice assistants to be activated at the touch of a finger.

Of course, no headphones of this kind can do without a suitable app, and neither can the new Cambridge Audio Melomania Touch. Cambridge Audio offers the latest Cambridge Audio Melimania app for these headphones, which offers extensive EQ functions and the transparency mode already mentioned. It also displays the charge status and allows any firmware updates to be installed. The “Find my Earphones” function is also particularly practical. This app is available for Apple iOS and Google Android.

The new Cambridge Audio Melomania Touch will be available in either white or black from January 2021 at a recommended retail price of € 139.95.
