Beyerdynamic Blue BYRD 2nd Generation – The new generation

“Keep your flow” is how Beyerdynamic GmbH & CO. KG advertises the new Bluetooth in-ear headset Beyerdynamic Blue BYRD 2nd Generation, which is already the second generation of this solution. The focus here is on never-ending flexibility.

With the new Beyerdynamic Blue BYRD 2nd Generation, the German headphone specialist Beyerdynamic GmbH & CO. KG promises a Bluetooth in-ear headset with never-ending flexibility and high-quality sound. KG.

The Beyerdynamic Blue BYRD 2nd Generation allows smooth transitions between listening to music, making phone calls, learning and sports, anytime and anywhere. The new Beyerdynamic Blue BYRD 2nd Generation succeeds, how could it be otherwise, the Beyerdynamic Blue BYRD, which was introduced in February 2019.

Beyerdynamic Blue BYRD 2nd Generation – Not True Wireless In-ear Headphones

It is striking that the manufacturer opted for a neckband design for the new Beyerdynamic Blue BYRD 2nd Generation, even though True Wireless in-ear headphones clearly dominate the market at present.

With a so-called neckband, the two actual earplugs are connected by means of a short cable, so this solution is not entirely cable-free. However, this also has advantages, such as the fact that you can simply let the earplugs hang down when you are not using them. In addition, you don’t have to worry about losing the in-ear headphones, especially during sports.

This also has advantages for the developers, because the electronics do not have to be housed in the actual earplugs, but can be done via a remote control integrated into the cable.

This means that, above all, a more powerful battery can be used, which is reflected in the new Beyerdynamic Blue BYRD 2nd Generation by a playing time of up to 14 hours.

Last but not least, this long battery life is also a criterion when talking about flexibility.

Walking, running, lying down…

The new Beyerdynamic Blue BYRD 2nd Generation has been designed so that it can be used comfortably in any situation. The ear tips are very flat and disappear almost completely in the ear. This means that even when lying down, nothing presses.

In order to guarantee the best wearing comfort, the new Beyerdynamic Blue BYRD 2nd Generation comes with five silicone earmoulds in the sizes XS, S, M, L and XL. Despite the cable and cable remote control, the new Beyerdynamic Blue BYRD 2nd Generation weighs no more than 32 g.

The headphones are particularly robust and at the same time elegantly designed, according to the manufacturer’s promise, who points to the neckband made of high-quality silicone and the glass-bead blasted metal applications on the cable remote control, for example. The earplugs themselves have decorative plates made of anodised and diamond-cut aluminium, but the housings are largely made of plastic.

The headphones are IPX4-certified and thus well equipped for all weather conditions.

Bluetooth 5.2 for signal transmission

The closed, dynamic in-ear headphones Beyerdynamic Blue BYRD 2nd Generation rely first and foremost on Bluetooth 5.2 from Qualcomm to guarantee high sound quality. The SBC and AAC codecs are supported, as well as aptX and aptX Adaptive. The manufacturer lists HSP, HFP, A2DP, AVRCP, AVCTP, AVDTP, SPP, DEVICE ID, RFCOMM and GAVDP as Bluetooth profiles.

According to the manufacturer, the frequency response of the new Beyerdynamic Blue BYRD 2nd Generation should be between 10 Hz and 25 kHz.

The Beyerdynamic Blue BYRD 2nd Generation is equipped with Multipoint Bluetooth for simultaneous connection to two source devices and Google Fast Pair, it is designated as an Amazon Alexa certified headset and is thus equipped for Google Assistant and Apple Siri in addition to Amazon’s voice recognition.

Best voice quality

The new Beyerdynamic Blue BYRD 2nd Generation is said to offer the best voice quality not only for voice control, but above all for telephone calls. The microphone integrated into the wired remote control can reproduce the user’s own voice signal via the earphones using the so-called sidetone function, thus allowing a natural conversation situation during phone calls. In addition, the 8th generation Qualcomm cVc technology reduces unwanted noise.

Sound personalisation via Beyerdynamic MYI App

Interestingly, the manufacturer once again relies on Mimi Sound Personalisation for the new Beyerdynamic Blue BYRD 2nd Generation via the Beyerdynamic MYI App for Google Android and Apple iOS.

After only a two-minute listening test, the sound and the settings of the headphones can be personalised with the app and completely adapted to the individual hearing. MOSAYC – Attention to Detail with Mimi Sound Personalization, the correct name of another function, also raises the sound of the Beyerdynamic Blue BYRD 2nd Generation to the next level, according to the manufacturer’s promise.

As already mentioned, the new Beyerdynamic Blue BYRD 2nd Generation comes with five earpieces, as well as a USB-C cable that is used to charge the battery. Also included in the package is a matching transport case.

The new Beyerdynamic Blue BYRD 2nd Generation will be available immediately at a recommended retail price of €129, but only in Beyerdynamic’s online store and on Amazon. Retailers will not be supplied until the end of October 2021.

Getting to the point

It has become rare for headphone manufacturers to devote themselves to solutions that are not labelled as True Wireless In-ear Headphones but, like the new Beyerdynamic Blue BYRD 2nd Generation, rely on a so-called neckband. This construction has its advantages and is still highly appreciated by many users.
