Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX – Wireless ANC In-ear headphones

With the new Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX, Bang & Olufsen has announced another pair of in-ear headphones, a so-called True Wireless in-ear headphone, which the company describes as the most versatile yet in its now quite broad product range. These headphones are said to be characterised by an amazing sound, an adaptive, active noise cancellation, and last but not least by a waterproof design, making them suitable for a particularly flexible use under various circumstances. The new Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX offers a unique combination of performance and stylish design and is therefore the perfect personal companion for users who are looking for something special.

Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX – New Design

Probably one of the most striking new features of the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX is its design, for which Thomas Bentzen is now responsible. The manufacturer claims that the housing of the new Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX, which sits in the user’s ear, is smaller than ever before, providing a comfortable and consistent fit. Even hours of use are said to be comfortable.

The practicality of this new shape is matched by Bang & Olufsen’s signature aesthetics, perfected over 96 years of craftsmanship and design innovation, the company also notes. From the reflective glass surface that catches the light at the perfect moment, to the brushed aluminium ring that surrounds it, the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX makes a statement to the wearer, whether they choose the refined Black Anthracite, the opulent Gold Tone or the striking Anthracite Oxygen, the variants in which these new in-ear headphones are offered.

The Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX is classified according to IP57 and is therefore resistant to dust and water. It can even be used for sports and in the most adverse weather conditions outdoors.

Features at the cutting edge

The heart of the new Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX is a driver with a diameter of 9.2 mm and a powerful drive based on neodymium magnets. This is capable of reproducing a frequency range between 20 Hz and 20 kHz, although this is primarily limited by the signal transmission via Bluetooth 5.2 used here.

The Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX supports the SBC and AAC codecs via Bluetooth 5.2, as well as aptX Adaptive.

According to the manufacturer, the new Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX is certified for Google Fast Pair as well as for Microsoft Swift Pair and also carries the “Made for iPhone” certificate from Apple. If you rely on the Apple ecosystem, the Apple Watch interface is also supported, which should be mentioned in passing.

It is also interesting that the new Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX supports multipoint connections, meaning that it can be connected to two devices simultaneously.

Undisturbed music enjoyment through adaptive, active noise cancellation

The new Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX can of course also be used for telephone calls and for voice control of the smartphone via six integrated so-called MEMS microphones, but these are primarily used for the integrated active, adaptive noise cancellation, which is often referred to as ANC, i.e. Active Noise Cancelling.

Of course, the user can adjust the intensity of the noise cancellation in order to not be completely cut off from the environment if necessary or to be able to have conversations via a so-called Transparency Mode without having to take the earplugs out of the ear.

Bang & Olufsen App for individual configuration

This is made possible via the Bang & Olufsen App, which is offered for Apple iOS and Google Android, and which also provides further adjustments such as the so-called Bang & Olufsen Beosonic Equalizer.

Battery life of up to 28 hours

In total, the new Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX offers a battery life of up to 28 hours, whereby the 70 mAh battery of the earplugs themselves last up to six hours with activated noise cancellation, and up to eight hours without.

The headphones’ carrying case has an integrated 380 mAh battery that can be used for charging on the go and will last the remaining 21 hours.

Charging the headphones takes about 1.5 hours; including the transport case, a full charge is completed after one hour and 45 minutes, provided that this is done via USB-C. If you choose wireless charging via Qi, however, charging takes two hours and 15 minutes.

By the way, 20 minutes of charging via a quick charge function is enough to be ready for about 1.75 hours.

“The Beoplay EX embodies the harmonious fusion of comfort, luxury and high-quality sound that characterises our entire legendary audio portfolio. Following the Beoplay H95, our award-winning over-ear headphones with active noise cancellation, and the Beoplay Portal, with which we entered the gaming market, the Beoplay EX is the logical next step in our superior sound offering.”
