ATC SCM150ASLT Limited Edition – Only 22 pairs…

An active loudspeaker system that is largely handcrafted exclusively to order is announced by the English loudspeaker specialist ATC Loudspeaker Technology with the new ATC SCM150ASLT Limited Edition. As you can easily see, this is a strictly limited edition, with only 22 pairs being produced.

At the centre of the loudspeaker system that the English loudspeaker manufacturer ATC Loudspeaker Technology Ltd. is now announcing in the form of the new ATC SCM150ASLT Limited Edition is the floorstanding loudspeaker system ATC SCM150ASLT, combining it in this special version with an external power amplifier, the ATC P6 Power Amplifier.

Outstanding craftsmanship in loudspeaker construction, drivers of the highest level and uncompromising electronics are to be combined here to create a true masterpiece, according to the promise of the English specialist ATC Loudspeaker Technology. The sum of these elements would result in a loudspeaker system that guarantees an extraordinary degree of clarity, neutrality and dynamics with perfect impulse response and ultimately represents nothing less than the result of 45 years of innovation and precision engineering.

The very powerful speakers are based on a three-way construction with bass reflex system.

For the lowest frequencies, a superlinear driver of the type ATC SB75-375SL is responsible, which, nomen es omen, has a diameter of no less than 375 mm. For the mid-range frequencies, the developers rely on the ATC SM75-150S, which the manufacturer has described as legendary. This is a 75 mm softdome dome. This dome tweeter is designed to reproduce the range of instruments and voices in an extremely transparent and natural way, with a homogeneous transition to the tweeter. This tweeter is designed in the form of the ATC SH25-76S super dome tweeter, which has such a stable double suspension that the use of a sluggish ferrofluid is not necessary, according to the manufacturer’s description. This would ensure that the 25 mm neodymium soft-dome dome tweeter is capable of unparalleled speed, resulting in maximum precision and minimum distortion. The already mentioned bass reflex system is led out to the front, the corresponding opening is thus located on the baffle on the side below the woofer.

This baffle, by the way, is a little different from the rest of the cabinet and is finished in a subtle black, while the driver itself is finished in a fine wood veneer. In the now announced version as ATC SCM150ASLT Limited Edition European walnut veneer with crown cut is used, sealed with high-gloss polyester lacquer. The cabinets of the ATC SCM150ASLT Limited Edition are handcrafted in a joinery belonging to ATC Loudspeaker Technology in Cotswolds. The base of the ATC SCM150ASLT Limited Edition speaker is also exceptional, as it is PVD treated to give it an exclusive nickel-like touch, with the base designed so that the speaker itself appears to float above it despite its impressive dimensions. By the way, the speaker weighs no less than 116 kg each. The dimensions of the speakers are given as 1,395 x 606 x 626 mm.

To make sure there is no doubt that you are dealing with a particularly noble, rare product, each speaker is provided with a stainless steel badge on the front.

What makes the speaker an active speaker is additional external amplifier electronics in the form of the ATC P6 power amplifiers.

This is a 3-way power amplifier, which is to be driven directly by one of the six channels. This is made possible by a connection panel on the speakers, which has a 10-pin LEMO connector in aerospace quality.

The power amplifier operates in class AB mode and has a double mono construction. Its six channels deliver a combined output of an impressive 700 watts, with 200 watts each powering the woofers, 100 watts each of the mid-range drivers, and 50 watts each of the tweeters. In particular, the manufacturer points out that the discrete power amplifier has an outstanding signal-to-noise ratio of more than 105 dB. This extremely low-noise design, coupled with active three-way crossovers with phase equalization, guarantees clear and detailed audio reproduction, the manufacturer promises. Together, the ATC SCM150ASLT Limited Edition System achieves a maximum sound pressure level of an impressive 117 dB.

By the way, the electronics were of course “packaged” in accordance with the standard, and the system uses a very elegant elliptically shaped billet aluminium chassis. The power amplifier thus weighs in at an additional 50.5 kg. It measures 427 x 634 x 318mm, which is not at all modest.

As already mentioned, it is a solution that is produced in a limited edition only, and in a strictly limited edition. Only 22 pairs of the ATC SCM150ASLT Limited Edition will be available. Whoever is enthusiastic about it, will probably have to strike very quickly to be among the chosen ones.

Whereby, one should have a little bit of change on the side, because the recommended retail price for the ATC SCM150ASLT Limited Edition is € 65.000,-. By the way, each set is built to order, so the earliest delivery will be on August 5th, 2020…
