Accuphase DP-1000 Precision SACD Transport

Optical data carriers are still very popular with the Japanese high-end hi-fi manufacturer Accuphase Laboratory inc. For these, they now even present a new drive, even if it is only designed as a so-called transport, the Accuphase DP-1000 Precision SACD Transport.

With the new Accuphase DP-1000 Precision SACD Transport, the Japanese high-end hi-fi manufacturer Accuphase Laboratory Inc. once again dedicates itself to data carriers that others have written off as obsolete for years, namely audio CDs and Super Audio CDs.

From the Japanese point of view, these optical data carriers still play a very important role when it comes to reproducing music in excellent quality, and neither the trend towards streaming nor the renaissance of vinyl records has changed anything.

Audiophile music lovers still like to use these media, quite apart from the fact that this target group has thousands and thousands of CDs and SACDs on their shelves and, of course, they want them to be played back in the best possible way in the future.

A Pure Transport – No Integrated D/A Converter

Even though the name of the new solution from the Japanese already says it all, it should be pointed out here that this is not an SACD player, but actually a so-called transport. The Accuphase DP-1000 Precision SACD Transport does without an integrated converter and passes the data read from the Audio CD or Super Audio CD on to other components in digital form.

The Accuphase DP-1000 Precision SACD Transport thus focuses solely on one task, namely reading out the data from CD and SACD as accurately as possible.

50 years of striving for the highest sound quality and perfection

The presentation of the new Accuphase DP-1000 Precision SACD Transport should also be seen in the light of the fact that the Japanese high-end hi-fi manufacturer is now celebrating its 50th birthday, and of course a CD or SACD player in the broadest sense cannot be missing, even if, as just described, it is a transport and not a full-fledged player.

According to the manufacturer, the new Accuphase DP-1000 Precision SACD Transport is based on all the expertise gained over decades for the exact reading of data.

The DP-1000 is the culmination of Accuphase Laboratory Inc.’s 50-year quest to develop the ideal transporter.

Particularly elaborately designed turntable

The heart of the new Accuphase DP-1000 Precision SACD Transport is clearly the turntable itself, which weighs in at a hefty 7.2 kg. This is a clear indication of how robustly it is constructed. The drive was installed in such a way that it has a very low centre of gravity. This construction with a low centre of gravity prevents the cabinet from resonating and considerably reduces the external vibrations that reach the crossbar mechanism. Last but not least, a base plate contributes to this, weighing in at a proud 3.8 kg.

The turntable and the disc loading mechanism are decoupled with elastic dampers, using materials of different strength, so that very broad damping is achieved for the lowest possible transmission of vibrations and resonances.

Another important factor in avoiding sound-damaging vibrations is, of course, the drive, which is designed as a brushless DC external rotor motor.

Low-noise power supply

Another essential component for the highest quality was to design the power supply in such a way that it ensured the best possible basis for optimum, low-noise operation of the Accuphase DP-1000 Precision SACD Transport.

The new Accuphase DP-1000 Precision SACD Transport therefore has separate power supplies based on toroidal transformers and ten filter capacitors of 4,700 μF each for the drive and the signal processing.

Purely digital interfaces

As already mentioned, the Accuphase DP-1000 Precision SACD Transport does not have an integrated converter, so signals leave it solely on a digital level.

First and foremost, there is a coaxial S/PDIF interface, but also a so-called HS-Link Version 2. The matching Accuphase AHDL-15 cable is included in the delivery.

Elegant appearance

The design is completely in keeping with the design language that the Japanese have been cultivating for years, whereby the cabinet is made of aluminium with a generous wall thickness, and the base plate even has a wall thickness of 12 mm. The cabinet is finished with naturally grained, highly polished wood, which is made by craftsmen from carefully selected, untreated wood.

It should also be mentioned that the Accuphase DP-1000 Precision SACD Transport is enthroned on so-called High-carbin Cast Iron Insolator equipment feet, has a Power-on Play function and the option of a programmable playlist.

Getting to the point

Accuphase Laboratory Inc. is one of those companies that continues to rely on the optical data carriers Audio CD and Super Audio CD, which are already considered obsolete by many, and brings outstanding solutions such as the new Accuphase DP-1000 Precision SACD Transport onto the market.
