Musical Fidelity M6x 250.4/2 Class A/B Power Amplifier - The Universal Home Cinema Extension

The new Musical Fidelity M6x 250.4/2 is a solution from Musical Fidelity that is rarely found in this form. It is a power amplifier with a special layout that can be used either as a 4-channel or as a bridged 2-channel class A/B power amplifier for flexible use in the home cinema.

Musical Fidelity sees the new Musical Fidelity M6x 250.4/2 on the one hand as an extension for 5.1 and 7.1 channel AV systems, but also as a way of equipping a classic stereo system for surround reproduction and thus home cinema.

Growing commitment to home cinema

Musical Fidelity has always been regarded as a classic hi-fi manufacturer, the strength of the English company clearly lies in the stereo segment, where it can point to a wide product range, in which above all amplifiers in various forms – pre- and power amplifiers, stereo integrated amplifiers – play a very important role and have thus formed the core business of the company for years.

What is new is that Musical Fidelity now also dedicates itself to the home cinema sector, deliberately leaving out everything to do with signal processing in audio and video and concentrating on what it has proven to master perfectly, i.e. amplifiers.

With the Musical Fidelity M6x 250.5 5 Channel Power Amplifier, Musical Fidelity M6x 250.7 7 Channel Power Amplifier as well as Musical Fidelity M6x 250.11 11 Channel Power Amplifier, Musical Fidelity presented three power amplifiers that are designed for use in home cinema and are supposed to convince with enormous power but also with classic high-end hi-fi virtues for a particularly appealing performance.

Now, with the new Musical Fidelity M6x 250.4/2, comes another solution that, at first glance, doesn’t quite seem to fit into the concept that has been pursued so far, but is ultimately unparalleled in the entire market. And this is due to the extremely flexible design of this power amplifier.

4-channel or bridged 2-channel Class A/B power amplifier

As already mentioned, the new Musical Fidelity M6x 250.4/2 is a 4-channel power amplifier in Class A/B, but it also offers the possibility of bridged operation and thus can be used as a two-channel system.

As a bridged 2-channel Class A/B power amplifier, the new Musical Fidelity M6x 250.4/2 can of course be used in the classic stereo segment, for example in combination with a preamplifier or a streaming client with integrated preamplifier, as there are many on the market. Bi-amping would also be a conceivable application, if you trust in the 4-channel configuration.

Really exciting, however, is the use in home cinema, because on the one hand you can use the new Musical Fidelity M6x 250.4/2 to turn a classic stereo system into a multi-channel surround system, or to expand an existing multi-channel system with additional channels.

There are almost no limits to creativity, especially in combination with the aforementioned Musical Fidelity multi-channel power amplifiers, i.e. the Musical Fidelity M6x 250.5 5 Channel Power Amplifier, Musical Fidelity M6x 250.7 7 Channel Power Amplifier and Musical Fidelity M6x 250.11 11 Channel Power Amplifier.

Powerful and with a sense of refinement

Musical Fidelity states that this multi-channel amplifier is of course modular and has its own Class A/B power amplifier per channel. The amplifiers are designed to sound very natural, as all transients and micro information are preserved, as the manufacturer describes it.

The basis for the impeccable signal processing is also the so-called Super Silent Audiophile Power Transformer, which guarantees a wide dynamic range and fine detail and thus ultimately a detailed sound stage.

The Musical Fidelity M6x 250.4/2 is thus able to preserve all details and emotions, regardless of the volume.

Another important feature is that a sophisticated heat sink design ensures that no fans are required.

The Musical Fidelity M6x 250.4/2 power amplifier has unbalanced as well as balanced inputs and outputs, so that signals can easily be passed on to other systems.

Loudspeaker systems are connected via solid screw terminals that accept ready-convected cables as well as bare cable ends even with a larger cross-section.

In the configuration as a bridged 2-channel power amplifier, a full 250 watts into 4 ohms or 180 watts into 8 ohms are available. When configured as a 4-channel amplifier, this solution delivers 175 watts into 4 ohms and 90 watts into 8 ohms per channel. For the sake of completeness, it should be mentioned that these figures are to be understood as all channels being driven, as some manufacturers in the AV segment occasionally trick their way into these figures…

The Musical Fidelity M6x 250.4/2 measures 435 x 110 x 435 mm and weighs in at 21.5 kg, which is also worth mentioning.

Prices and availability

According to the manufacturer, the new Musical Fidelity M6x 250.4/2 should be available in specialist shops within the next few days. The company states a recommended retail price of € 1.599,- for this solution. The customer can choose between silver and black.
