Lumin U2 Network Transport - The New Streaming Transport

Pixel Magic Systems Ltd. describes the new Lumin U2 Network Transport as a streaming transport of the latest generation, which is based on the same design philosophy as the Lumin T3 and thus adds another outstanding solution to the Lumin product range.

Story Highlights
  • After the great success of the Lumin T3, the new Lumin U2 Network Transport is to offer the same design philosophy for the first time in the form of a streaming transport.

With the new Lumin U2 Network Transport, the specialist Pixel Magic Systems Ltd. is now expanding its product portfolio with another streaming transport, whereby this solution is to be based on the same design philosophy as the Lumin T3. However, another product from the Lumin brand range is also involved.

The new Lumin U2 adopts the cabinet design, linear power supply and so-called dual network of the multi-award-winning Lumin P1, bringing, says the manufacturer, high-end digital technology directly into the heart of the Lumin brand’s product range.

Lumin U2 Network Transport – When a D/A converter is already available

The company Pixel Magic Systems Ltd. is of course aware of the fact that many of the target group – audiohile hi-fi enthusiasts – already own an outstanding D/A converter and therefore do not really need a streaming client, but a so-called streaming transport would suffice.

For this very reason, the new Lumin U2 Network Transport is a so-called Pure Digital Solution, as Pixel Magic Systems Ltd. describes it.

Combines the best aspects of the entire Lumin product range

The manufacturer is clearly convinced that the new Lumin U2 Network Transport is yet another outstanding solution, noting that it offers the best of the entire Lumin product range.

The new Lumin U2 Network Transport is characterised by the use of the specialist’s latest hardware and software.

New chassis design

The Lumin U2 Network Transport uses the same chassis construction as the Lumin P1. This means that it has a CNC-manufactured aluminium housing, which has a particularly high structural rigidity and shielding against disturbing external influences, and also shines with a particularly high-quality aesthetic.

More performance, new software

Much more essential, however, is that the Lumin U2 Network Transport can rely on new, particularly powerful hardware and new software. The memory capacity has also been expanded so that, according to the manufacturer, more power is available for signal processing and reserves for future expansions have also been included.

The system is able to process signals in Linear PCM with up to 32 bits and 768 kHz as well as DSD up to DSD512, with the option of upsampling to DSD256 or 32 bits 384 kHz, whereby four low-phase-noise crystal clock oscillators set the precise clock.

All relevant streaming technologies and platforms supported

How could it be otherwise, of course, the new Lumin U2 Network Transport is extremely versatile when it comes to the supported streaming technologies and platforms.

It is designed as a dlna-certified UPnP streaming transport, can rely on Apple AirPlay and is designated as Roon-ready. Via the Lumin App, which is available for smartphones and tablets with Apple iOS and Google Android, TIDAL, Spotify and Qobuz as well as TuneIn Radio are also supported.

Flexible due to all relevant interfaces

Of course, the new Lumin U2 Network Transport offers first and foremost an RH45 Gigabit Ethernet interface, but it also has a Fibre Network connection according to the industry standard SFP. Port The Lumin U2 Network Transport thus has a dual network interface with a built-in network switch.

Three USB ports, one of which is designed as a low-noise USB output, can be used to connect storage media or D/A converters.

In addition, an optical and coaxial S/PDIF interface, a BNC as well as an AES/EBU are available here to forward the signals to the D/A converter.

Solid power supply

Even if the new Lumin U2 Network Transport is only a streaming transport, it is said to have a particularly sophisticated power supply. This is designed as a particularly low-noise linear power supply with a generously dimensioned toroidal transformer.

Prices and availability

We do not yet have a recommended retail price from the local distributor, nor can we currently provide information about the availability of the Lumin U2 Network Transport.

Getting to the point

The new Lumin U2 Network Transport is aimed at all those audiophile hi-fi enthusiasts who already own an outstanding D/A converter but are looking for an equally outstanding streaming solution, says Pixel Magic Systems Ltd. about the new Streaming Transport in its product range.
